Fans are already casting their votes for actors to play the hero in Disney’s live-action “Hercules”

Disney recently made an announcement about who is slated to direct the live-action version of its animated classic, Hercules, and already, fans are chiming in about who they’d most like to see cast as Hercules himself in the upcoming film.

Just days ago, Disney announced that veteran director Guy Ritchie will direct the take-two of Hercules. Previously, the live-action film had been announced with Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo at the helm. Ritchie’s resume includes directing the 2019 box office smash Aladdin, the live-action version of the beloved 1992 Disney story about Genie, Aladdin, and Princess Jasmine. He’s now on tap to direct Disney’s most recently announced live-action epic, Hercules.

And while no big announcements have been made yet concerning the cast of Hercules, fans are already busy sharing their picks for actors to play the role of Hercules.

“I think you always have to bring something new to the table because from our perspective as storytellers, it’s not compelling for us to do a literal translation,” Anthony Russo previously explained about plans for developing the live-action version of Hercules. “We don’t do literal translations of the comics because we feel like if you want that story you can go read that story. We’re going to give you a different story. I think we’ll do something that’s in the vein of the original and inspired by it, but we also bring some new elements to the table.”

While the directors decide how to tell the story of Hercules, Megara, the Muses, et al, fans are taking to social media to do a little “dream-casting” of their own. It’ll be interesting to see if any of these dream-castings come true once the cast is finally chosen for the new film.

One user on Twitter says he’s not sure who should play Megara, but he’s sure about Hercules.

“I honestly don’t know for Meg, but NO QUESTION Taron Egerton should play Hercules,” he tweeted.

Another user, @SDARKONET, tweeted her choice for the actor to play Hercules, saying “If they’re making Hercules, then they should def(initely) get Henry Cavill to play Hercules; it’s only right.”

User Parker Brogdon tweeted about a “campaign” for his pick for the newest Hercules actor, tweeting “Campaign to get @BillyMagnussen cast as the live-action Hercules starting NOW.”

Other actors’ names put forth on Twitter to play the role of Hercules include Jason Statham and Aaron Taylor Johnson. Two “nominations” that caught our attention were Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, and the nomination for “anyone” to play Hercules, “as long as the Muses are on point.”

While Disney has yet to announce a possible release date for the upcoming live-action version of Hercules, there’s clearly interest in the remake, as evidenced by the many fans with ideas about who would make the best Herculerian actor.

About Becky Burkett

I'm an enthusiastic writer who finds joy in random things like cold weather, snow, "I Love Lucy," "The Andy Griffith Show," journals full of blank paper, countdowns to Christmas, the month of December, "Toy Story," "Sleeping Beauty," my 4 kids, my 4 shih tsus, Disney Parks history, Imagineering and visiting the parks. I think Walt Disney is the standard against which genius should be measured. I love to write about Disney Parks, Disney history, all things Imagineering and PIXAR. I adore the colors, story and art direction of Disney's "Sleeping Beauty" (Team Make it Blue!), and "Toy Story" is life (minus "Toy Story 4"). I believe Walt Disney was so much more than an entertainment and theme park tycoon; I believe he was a savant with a vision for life and how it could be if happiness and kindness are strived for. I love Biergarten at EPCOT and 1900 Park Fare at Disney's Grand Floridian. You can find me croonin' with the birdies at the Enchanted Tiki Room, chillin' on the PeopleMover or hangin' with Woody and the gang at Toy Story Land. I'm always looking for Imagineers in the parks, and I'd rather meet Joe Rohde and Tony Baxter than anyone in Hollywood! Hey, if you dream it, you really can do it!
