Fan-Favorite Universal Ride to Shut Down Just Days After Rip Ride RockIt News

Universal Orlando fans barely had time to process the news about Hollywood Rip Ride RockIt’s permanent closure before another closure popped up on the calendar. While this next one isn’t as long-lasting, it’s still enough to catch some guests off guard.

The spotlight has been on Rip Ride RockIt for weeks now, with its August 18, 2025, farewell looming. For many, the coaster’s towering lift hill, adrenaline-packed drops, and choose-your-own-music feature have been a can’t-miss part of a Universal visit. Crowds are already lining up for one last run before it’s gone for good.

But if you were planning to squeeze in a few other thrill rides during that trip, you might need to adjust your schedule. Another big-name attraction will be taking a short break right around the same time.

Mummy Takes a Brief Break

Revenge of the Mummy — the indoor coaster mixing high-speed launches, fire effects, and Egyptian theming — will close for maintenance from August 11 to August 13, 2025. That’s just a few days before Rip Ride RockIt’s swan song, meaning guests visiting mid-month will see both rides unavailable within the same week.

This isn’t the first time the Mummy has gone down for work. In 2022, it underwent an extended retracking and effects refresh, a months-long project that left some fans questioning whether the long wait was worth it. This time, though, Universal hasn’t hinted at anything major. These short refurbishments are typically for routine upkeep — checking track sections, tuning launch systems, and making sure effects run without a hitch.

What It Means for Guests

If all goes according to plan, the Mummy will reopen August 14, just in time for the final days of Rip Ride RockIt. But if the work takes longer than expected, there’s a chance both coasters could be closed at once — a scenario that would push more guests toward headliners like Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts or Transformers: The Ride 3D, potentially inflating wait times.

For now, thrill-seekers can take comfort knowing this is just a quick pause. The Mummy has been running strong since its big comeback last year, and this short downtime should help keep the ride in top shape for the busy fall season ahead.

Andrew Boardwine

A frequent visitor of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, Andrew will likely be found freefalling on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean. Over at Universal, he'll be taking in the thrills of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Revenge of the Mummy
