The holidays are coming and with them, our favorite time to visit Disney Parks begins! Christmas is a magical time of year to visit the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts. With magic around ever corner, Disney Parks truly go all out to make the holidays magical.

We’ve got so many special memories of the Christmas season at Disney. While our hearts belong to Disney World, every Disney Resort around the world has something that sets it apart! We couldn’t chose a favorite park to visit at Christmas, that would be like trying to choose a favorite child! One Park though, shines just a bit brighter at Chriatmas.
From snow on Main Street to Jack Skellington in the Haunted Mansion, no one does Christmas quite like Disneyland does. There are so many amazing experiences during the holidays that it’s hard to choose a favorite. If we absolutely had to chose though, we’d have to go with the “it’s a small world” overlay.

The overlay began in 1997 as way to boost Christmas visits at Disneyland (a problem Disney World has never had). Whole the ride is exactly the same as it always is, the children sing “Jingle Bells” and “Deck the Halls” instead of the rides typical theme song. The children in the attraction also don special holiday costumes and the entire ride gets a festive decor upgrade. In 2019, the holiday got even more magical when scents were added! Asia has a cherry blossom scent, South America sports a cinnamon scent, and the South Seas boasts coconut scent.

The outside is just as magical as the inside during the holiday season! The rides facade is decked out with more than 50,000 lights! To celebrate the season, Disneylandhosts a special lighting ceremony every night begins at dusk. Afterwards, every 30 minutes the facade comes alive with a kaleidoscope of holiday colors and images. It’s definitely a must-so on your holiday Disneyland visit.

Today, Disney announced that BOTH of these holiday experiences, the overlay for “it’s a small world ” and the lighting ceremony will return for the 2023 holiday season! We can’t wait to rock around the Christmas tree with Disney this year!
