If a giant pretzel is part of your World Showcase game plan this week, you may need a slight detour. The pretzel and beer cart that usually sits in EPCOT’s Germany pavilion is currently nowhere to be found, and Disney has yet to say why.

For years, the cart has been an easy stop for guests craving a supersized German-style pretzel or a cold beer while making their way around the lagoon. So far, there’s been no official word on whether the cart is coming back, or when that might happen.
The good news? You won’t leave Germany empty-handed. The nearby kiosk, just a short walk away, is still serving pretzels alongside its beers. And if you head farther into the pavilion, Sommerfest, the quick-service spot near Biergarten Restaurant, has pretzels on the menu, too.
So, Where Did the Cart Go?
Fellow guests have a theory. Over in the public Annual Passholders for Walt Disney World Orlando Facebook group, one member pointed to this week’s runDisney festivities.
“Preparing for this weekend’s race,” one commenter wrote. “All the carts are in the run path; it’s a safety hazard.”

That lines up with the calendar. The EPCOT Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend kicks off today, October 22, and runs through October 24, wrapping up with the half-marathon itself. Since the courses wind around World Showcase, clearing carts from the route would make good sense for keeping runners and guests safe. Just keep in mind that this is a guest’s educated guess rather than an official Disney explanation.
There’s a small catch, too. Another Passholder chimed in, “Omg I noticed that last week. I hope it’s temporary,” hinting that the cart may have disappeared a bit before race setup would normally start. The person who started the thread replied simply, “I hope so.”
And some fans weren’t taking it well at all. “Noooo, the carb cart is gone! They can’t do that to us!” one wrote, and honestly, the nickname fits.
A Pavilion in Transition
The missing cart is the latest change in a pavilion that has seen plenty of them lately. Most of this year’s refurbishment headlines at Walt Disney World have centered on other parks, like Piston Peak National Park heading to Magic Kingdom and Monstropolis on its way to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. But Germany has had a quieter run of its own updates. The Volkskunst shop closed, Der Teddybär closed temporarily before reopening, and construction walls went up around the pavilion’s restrooms.

It’s natural to wonder whether the cart is part of that same project, but Disney hasn’t said so, and the timing alone doesn’t confirm anything.
Our advice? If you’re visiting EPCOT soon, make the kiosk or Sommerfest your pretzel plan, and be ready for a few surprises while work in Germany continues. Whether the cart rolls back in once race weekend wraps up, or has been retired for good, is still anyone’s guess.
