An Unexpected Change Has Arrived at EPCOT Park Entry

Guests arriving at EPCOT on April 28 noticed an immediate change to their park entry experience. Here’s what families planning future Walt Disney World Resort visits need to know.

Earlier this month, around April 6, the illuminated “welcome” sign disappeared from the toll plaza at the entrance to the main parking area at EPCOT. As with most minor refurbishment projects, Walt Disney World Resort did not acknowledge the removal or share its plan for the sign.

It took just over three weeks for Central Florida Disney Park guests to get answers. On Tuesday, WDWNT reported that the illuminated letters had returned to the EPCOT toll plaza. The outlet shared this photo on Facebook:

The white illuminated letters spelling “welcome” appear the same as they did before their removal earlier this month. The redesigned sign was originally installed in 2023 to align with an overhaul of EPCOT branding; it matches the font used for the park’s logo over the last three years. Their removal was likely for maintenance or cleaning due to general wear and tear, as the letters did not appear damaged before they disappeared.

According to Disney Park guests, the paneling under and around the illuminated “welcome” letters also appears to have been cleaned while they were missing.

Walt Disney World Resort never acknowledged the EPCOT toll plaza refurbishment project, nor did it detail its plans for the structure. At this time, the maintenance work appears complete. No construction equipment is visible, and guests are allowed to drive through all lanes of the toll plaza as normal.

Still, change is constant at the Central Florida Disney parks, and guests should be prepared to follow any alternate cast member instructions when visiting Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.

Should Walt Disney World Resort update the toll plazas at any of its other theme parks? Share your thoughts with Disney Dining in the comments!
