Every fall, Walt Disney World Resort’s EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival invites thousands of guests to experience international festive drinks and culinary creations from around the world. Guests eat and drink at EPCOT without worry, as Disney is known for its high standards in cleanliness and hospitality. Unfortunately, one guest’s recent experience is raising eyebrows about an unexpected hygiene risk within the theme park.
A Disney Parks fan recently took to Reddit to share their less-than-appetizing encounter after spending the day at the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival. Redditor u/ThisTastesFunnie noticed an “off-putting smell” as they left the park. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a simple spill or dropped snack—when they looked down, they realized they had stepped into something far less savory.
“I look down, and yup, my right Nike was covered in it, a thick coating of butt gravy,” the guest wrote, expressing both disgust and surprise at the unexpected souvenir. They added a humorous, if gross, suggestion: “Whoever this was, please eat some more fiber; your GI tract will thank you.”
The unfortunate incident has other Disney Parks fans chiming in with sympathy and shock. Some wondered how the guest managed to make it all the way to their car without noticing the mess. The guest argued that the park and parking lot are generally dark in some areas once the sun sets, making it easy to miss certain hazards on the ground.
Disney Parks fans know that the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival can get crowded, with guests frequently using trash cans as makeshift tables when official dining areas fill up. Though Walt Disney World Resort’s custodial team is known for its efficiency, isolated hygiene issues can still happen in such a high-traffic setting. To help maintain a clean experience for everyone, Disney encourages guests to report any hygiene concerns to the nearest cast member.
