The repair work at EPCOT‘s American Adventure World Showcase Pavilion is expanding, and new construction barriers installed this week have revealed damage to the building’s facade that hadn’t been visible before.
More Pillars Covered, More Damage Revealed
On Wednesday, WDWNT reported that Walt Disney World Resort had extended the construction barriers to at least four additional pillars on the right side of the main American Adventure building, in front of the partially outdoor area that houses the Kidcot Fun Stop. The outlet shared a photo of the new barriers, which match the protective materials already in place around the damaged pillars on the front of the colonial-themed structure.
The expanding construction footprint has also exposed new details about the extent of the damage. Holes are now visible above the newly covered pillars — presumably left behind when signage was removed following the 250th anniversary of the United States’ founding. The Independence Day decorations installed for the Fourth of July celebrations appear to have caused more widespread damage to the building’s facade than the initial affected pillars suggested.
How the Damage Happened
The story begins with the post-holiday cleanup. When Walt Disney World Resort removed the red, white, and blue bunting and signage from the American Adventure Pavilion after the July 4 weekend, the process left visible marks on the colonial-style building. At least one metal support bracket was torn from a pillar during removal, chipping paint and exposing inner infrastructure. Additional adhesive damage and paint loss were noted across multiple columns.
Protective construction barriers appeared around the most visibly damaged pillars a few weeks later, accompanied by a general construction permit filed by Walt Disney World Resort listing a roofing and architectural company as the third-party contractor. Wednesday’s expansion of the construction zone to the right side of the building signals the project is broader in scope than the initial barriers implied.
American Adventure Pavilion Operations Unaffected at EPCOT
Despite the growing construction presence, the American Adventure World Showcase Pavilion continues to operate normally. Guests can still enjoy the audio-animatronic show, catch a Voices of Liberty performance, visit the Kidcot Fun Stop, use the pavilion restrooms, and dine at Regal Eagle Smokehouse.
