Elizabeth Olsen’s Live-Action Scarlet Witch Returns in Surprising Marvel Project
Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch is officially back—at least in Marvel Comics. The third issue of Marvel’s “TVA” series, released earlier this week, confirmed the character’s return, fueling speculation about her live-action future.
“Marvel Comics artist Pere Pérez confirms that the Scarlet Witch in the TVA comic is indeed Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda!” MCU Film News (@MCUFilmNews) shared, reinforcing that this version of the fallen Avenger bears a striking resemblance to Olsen’s portrayal. While this doesn’t necessarily confirm her return to the big screen, it adds another layer to ongoing rumors surrounding a possible live-action comeback in Avengers: Doomsday (2026).
Scarlet Witch’s fate has been uncertain since 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where Wanda Maximoff became the film’s central antagonist. “FOR ALL TIMES, ALWAYS!” reads the synopsis of ‘TVA'”, via Marvel.com. “The Time Variance Authority has long watched over the timeline, protecting it from dangerous variations that could cause the end of EVERYTHING.”
It continues: “Now, as the organization begins to expand its tolerance of variants, it’s enlisted some new recruits from timelines that have been wiped from existence: Captain Peggy Carter, Super-Soldier of her world; Gambit, despondent and aimless from the loss of his lady love; and…this can’t be right…Spider-Gwen?!? Has her world been destroyed?!?”
Scarlet Witch first debuted in the MCU in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) before taking on a larger role in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). Over time, Wanda became one of the franchise’s most pivotal figures, leading Marvel’s first Disney+ series, WandaVision, in 2021. The critically acclaimed series marked a major moment for the MCU’s streaming slate and introduced her children, Billy and Tommy Maximoff.
Following WandaVision, Wanda took a villainous turn in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, attempting to seize America Chavez’s (Xochitl Gomez) powers to traverse the Multiverse. Her arc ended in tragedy as she seemingly perished while destroying the Darkhold. Since then, speculation about her return has only intensified, especially after Agatha All Along confirmed that Wanda’s son Billy was still alive, while her own fate remained ambiguous.
Now, Wanda’s comeback is confirmed in “TVA,” a five-issue series written by Loki Season 2’s Katharyn Blair and illustrated by Pere Pérez (“Carnage,” “Spider-Woman”). The comic explores the Time Variance Authority, first introduced in Loki Season 1 and most recently seen in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).
While fans wait for confirmation of Olsen’s live-action return, they can look forward to her next MCU appearance in Marvel Zombies, hitting Disney+ on October 3, 2025. The animated series, a spinoff of What If…?, will be rated TV-MA and directed by Bryan Andrews. The show will expand on the undead-infested timeline introduced in What If…? Season 1.
Initially, only Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel had been confirmed for the project. However, Marvel recently announced a star-studded ensemble joining Olsen, including Awkwafina (Katy), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Randall Park (Jimmy Woo), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Hailee Steinfeld (Hawkeye), Dominique Thorne (Ironheart), and Todd Williams in an undisclosed role.
Marvel Zombies is just one of several Disney+ series arriving in 2025, alongside Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart, Eyes of Wakanda, and Wonder Man. On the theatrical side, Marvel’s lineup includes Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts* in May, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July, launching Phase Six.
