Don’t Let These 5 Things Ruin Your Walt Disney World Vacation

You are coming to Walt Disney World to get away from the stressful things in the rest of your life, right? We all look to enjoy the “Place Where Dreams Come True” with fun, laughter, eating tasty food and making lifetime memories. There are some things that could threaten that experience, such as the list below. Take our advice and don’t let a single one derail your vacation. It’s your choice.

5. The weather

This is an interesting factor at Walt Disney World. Central Florida is famous for its hot summers and warm winters. Please check the forecast for the time you will be visiting the resort and bring the proper clothing, and have realistic expectations. In the spring and summer expect rain at some point during the day. You may need to bring a coat with you in the winter. It can get cold here. If you don’t mind paying $60.00 or more for a sweatshirt for everyone in your family, then leave them at home. As far as the rain goes, people seem to be in two camps on it. One says “Rain, yay! That means the number of people in the park will be smaller! Let’s go!” Then there is the other camp who says,”oh, no. I guess we can’t go anywhere today.” If you wait for a no-rain day you may miss out on everything. Don one of those fashionable ponchos and embrace it. Some of my family’s greatest memories are from a day not many other people ventured into the parks. Yes, we were wet, a bit, but we had a blast. Conditions do not have to be perfect to have a great time. Do what you can to adapt to the changing conditions and enjoy the day anyway. There is still plenty to do on rainy, cold or hot days.

4. Problems with your FastPass+

Don’t come before your time is because the light will just turn blue, you will be turned away and asked to come back at your reserved time. You chose the time so you know when it is. Every time I use my FP+ I have to wait for this to be explained to people ahead of me when the light turned blue and invariably people who entered the FP+ line who didn’t have any FP+ at all, and the worst is when someone decides to take it out on the Cast Member with their anger that they don’t want to come back in 40 minutes, they want to ride NOW. It ruins that person’s day, their party’s day, certainly the Cast Member’s day, and the other Guests around them. If you are unhappy with the times than go to a FP+ kiosk and ask for assistance. They will do everything possible to help you get something that works for you. They cannot create time openings that are not there, but if they are there, they will get them assigned to you. People change their plans frequently through the day so don’t be afraid to try again at the kiosk.

3. A bad attitude

If you have a real live Grumpy in your ranks, don’t let it keep you from having fun. Let Disney work some magic on them as the day goes on and see if you can’t get a grin out of them by lunchtime! Ask for a suggestion from them for what to do next, or where to eat. Get them involved in the decision-making. If you are the Grumpy, there is some great Disney merchandise available for you!

2. Dehydration

This happens to so many people each day. Don’t let it be you, or your children. Drink plenty of water especially during these very hot summer days. Your body needs water. People collapse from the heat and when asked if they were drinking through the day they answer yes, followed with: beer, soda, wine, milk, but those don’t fight dehydration, some actually make it worse. If you have a water bottle bring it and refill it through the day so you can drink while in the queues. You can get complimentary water glasses from any of the counter service restaurants in the parks so make use of that. Staying hydrated keeps you from feeling ill and possible collapsing and having to take a trip to the ER. That’s no fun! Spend your time at the resort not spending money at the hospital.

1. Other guests

I actually saw an argument break out on Main Street once.. Now, I understand it is hot and many people lose it when tired and overheated. But this was over a Photo Pass Photographer to take their family’s pictures with the Cinderella Castle in the background. There were five PP Photographers within a fairly short distance of each other. Feel the magic? Starting your day off in a fight is not very magical. The photographers are efficient and take beautiful photos that you will cherish for a long time. They can’t help but capture the mood, so keep it light!

About Cassie

Cassie L. I am a lifelong Disney fan. I attended Walt Disney World in 1971, and was there during the opening week of EPCOT, and have visited the Disney Parks for than 30 times. I have had the privilege of visiting Disneyland as a child, and then again with my children. My family recently moved from the northeastern United States to the Walt Disney World area. I now have cast members in my family and enjoy hearing the magical stories at the end of a shift. I love visiting all of the parks and getting to try more Disney food and being able to share it with you to help you plan your own magical day at Disney.
