Dollywood Reveals Official Opening Date for $50M Coaster After Months of Uncertainty

Dollywood fans have spent months waiting for one question to be answered: when will the park’s newest attraction finally open?

After an unexpected delay pushed the project beyond its original timeline, excitement never disappeared. Every construction update sparked fresh speculation, but an official opening date remained out of reach.

Now, Dollywood has ended the guessing game.

The park has confirmed exactly when guests can experience its newest addition, and some of its most loyal visitors will even get an opportunity to climb aboard before the general public. The announcement marks a major milestone for one of the biggest projects in Dollywood’s history.

Dollywood Has Built a Loyal Following

Part of the excitement comes from Dollywood’s reputation for delivering more than a typical theme park experience.

Visitors come for the rides, but they also return for the live entertainment, Appalachian traditions, food, and welcoming atmosphere that have become trademarks of the park. Those qualities have helped Dollywood build a dedicated fan base that closely follows every major expansion.

The park has continued to grow over the years, with attractions like Wild Eagle, Lightning Rod, and Big Bear Mountain. Each addition has strengthened the lineup while preserving the character that longtime visitors appreciate.

When Dollywood announced another major attraction, fans immediately took notice. Interest only increased as construction continued, even after the opening timeline changed. Dollywood later explained that crews needed additional time for adjustments and testing before the attraction would be ready for guests.

A Ride Unlike Anything Else at the Park

That attraction is NightFlight Expedition, a groundbreaking hybrid coaster and whitewater river ride representing a $50 million investment for Dollywood.

Rather than following the format of a traditional roller coaster, the attraction blends several ride experiences into one adventure. According to Dollywood, riders will soar over the Smokies, plunge into white river rapids, climb a mountainside, and navigate a mysterious lake throughout the experience.

The attraction combines immersive storytelling with fast-paced action, carrying guests through multiple environments in a single ride.

Instead of asking visitors to choose between coaster thrills and a water attraction, NightFlight Expedition combines them. That unique concept makes it one of the most ambitious additions Dollywood has ever introduced.

The Official Date Is Finally Here

After months of anticipation, Dollywood has confirmed that NightFlight Expedition will officially open to the public on August 19.

Beginning that day, guests can experience every part of the attraction, including soaring over the Smokies, plunging into white river rapids, climbing a mountainside, and navigating a mysterious lake.

The announcement gives visitors a firm date after construction ran longer than the park’s original expectations. For many fans, simply having a confirmed opening date removes the uncertainty that surrounded the project for much of the year.

It also allows travelers planning late-summer vacations to include the attraction in their itineraries with confidence.

The confirmation suggests the attraction has reached the final stages of preparation, with Dollywood completing testing before welcoming the public.

A Complex Project Needed More Time

Building NightFlight Expedition required more than constructing a traditional roller coaster.

Because the attraction combines coaster technology with an elaborate water-ride system, Dollywood said additional adjustments and testing were necessary before opening. The park chose to continue refining the attraction rather than rush guests onto the ride before everything was ready.

Projects with multiple ride systems often require extensive testing before opening, helping operators verify that every element performs as intended.

With August 19 now officially set as opening day, those additional months have brought the attraction to the finish line.

Passholders Get the First Opportunity

Some season passholders won’t have to wait until the public opening.

Dollywood has scheduled exclusive preview rides from August 15 through August 18 for eligible Silver, Gold, and Diamond Passholders who purchased their 2026 Season Pass between September 17 and October 12, 2025.

Beginning Friday, August 7, at 10 a.m., eligible passholders can log into their My Dollywood Account to reserve a ride time slot. Each eligible Passholder may reserve one preview time slot.

Since availability is limited, qualifying guests will likely want to secure their reservation soon after registration opens.

The preview period allows Dollywood to welcome some of its most loyal supporters before the attraction officially debuts while continuing final operational preparations ahead of opening day.

The Wait Is Almost Over

Months of anticipation have finally led to a clear answer.

NightFlight Expedition officially opens to all guests on August 19, ending months of questions about when Dollywood’s ambitious new attraction would welcome riders. Combining coaster thrills, water elements, and immersive storytelling, the attraction represents one of the park’s most significant investments in recent years.

Eligible passholders will get an early look beginning August 15, while everyone else now has an official date to look forward to. After a longer-than-expected journey to opening day, NightFlight Expedition is finally preparing to welcome its first riders.
