Disney’s Cast Members Get a Behind-the-Scenes Look at What’s Coming Next

Big changes are coming to Hollywood Studios, and if you’re like us, you’re counting down the days. Not only are we getting a brand-new villain-themed spectacle, but a refreshed Little Mermaid experience is finally swimming its way into the park. And the best part? Disney Cast Members are getting an early look before the rest of us even get through the gates.

Here’s everything you need to know about the exciting entertainment updates hitting Disney’s Hollywood Studios this spring.

Villains Take Center Stage

If you’ve ever found yourself rooting for the bad guys (don’t worry, we won’t judge), you’re going to love what’s coming to Sunset Boulevard. Nestled next to the Tower of Terror, the newly reimagined Sunset Showcase theater will host Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After.

This new stage show promises a larger-than-life celebration of Disney’s most notorious characters. We’re talking about the likes of Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and a whole cast of other mischievous icons coming together for a one-of-a-kind performance.

With the magic mirror guiding the way, guests will experience a series of dazzling numbers packed with music, drama, and a twist ending where the audience gets to weigh in on who’s been wronged the most. It’s going to be bold, dramatic, and just the right amount of wicked fun.

The show is expected to run about 40 minutes — perfect for a mid-park-day break with a villainous flair.

Ariel’s Story Gets a Big Upgrade

Meanwhile, over at the former site of Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Ariel is ready to make waves once again. The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure is set to take everything we loved about the original show and crank it up several notches.

With brand-new sets, dazzling effects, and a totally revamped theater, this updated production will dive deep into Ariel’s story in a way that feels even more immersive. Fans can expect to see all the familiar faces — King Triton, Ursula, Sebastian — alongside new choreography, lighting, and scenery that bring the undersea world to life like never before.

Originally slated for a fall opening, Disney decided to speed things up. Now, The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure will debut alongside the villains show on May 27, 2025.

Cast Member Previews Set to Begin

Before the official debut, Cast Members will get an exclusive sneak peek. Disney has already scheduled Cast Member preview dates for both shows. Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After will have previews on May 21, 22, and 23. The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure will follow on May 24, 25, and 26.

This early access lets Cast Members experience the new entertainment first, giving Disney a chance to fine-tune the shows before they’re rolled out to the general public.

Why This Is a Big Deal for Hollywood Studios

For a while now, Hollywood Studios has been seen as the park with the big blockbuster attractions — Rise of the Resistance, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Slinky Dog Dash. But with two new stage shows, the park is once again rounding out its entertainment options, giving families and fans a reason to slow down and enjoy a bit of classic Disney magic.

Live entertainment is the heartbeat of Disney parks, and these new shows are a reminder of how good it feels to get swept into a story right in front of your eyes.

May 27 can’t get here soon enough.

Andrew Boardwine

A frequent visitor of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, Andrew will likely be found freefalling on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean. Over at Universal, he'll be taking in the thrills of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Revenge of the Mummy
