Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Is Getting Something HUGE by 2027
Across Walt Disney World, construction walls are going up faster than churros disappear on Main Street. Guests are buzzing about new lands, refreshed rides, and big updates—but one of the most significant projects is happening quietly, far from the crowds.
Muppets Out, Monsters In
In Hollywood Studios, Disney is transforming the familiar Muppets courtyard into Monsters, Inc. Land. Concept art shows streets of Monstropolis, bright overhead doors, and possibly even a suspended coaster inspired by the movie’s iconic door chase scene.
While losing the Muppets here feels bittersweet, Disney plans to bring them back in a reimagined Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster later this year.
Frontierland and Rivers of America
In Magic Kingdom, Disney gives Frontierland a facelift with upgraded exteriors, improved walkways, and possibly new interactive features to keep the land lively. Crews have drained the Rivers of America nearby and closed Tom Sawyer Island for construction.
Disney is replacing the area with Piston Peak, inspired by Planes: Fire & Rescue (2014). The new land could feature roaring waterfalls, dramatic water effects, and family-friendly zones where guests “fight fires” in the Florida heat.
Classic Attractions in Refurb Mode
Two beloved Magic Kingdom rides are also getting updates. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad might reopen with smoother track, enhanced animatronics, and upgraded sound effects. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin could see sharper blasters, brighter targets, and a more accurate scoring system for competitive guests.
EPCOT and Animal Kingdom
EPCOT will close Spaceship Earth on August 25 to add new lighting, smoother ride vehicles, and possibly some scene alterations. At Animal Kingdom, Disney is retheming DinoLand U.S.A. into Tropical Americas. The Boneyard’s closure on September 1 will create a richer, more immersive theme.
Resorts Join the Overhaul
The changes aren’t just in the parks. Resorts like Pop Century, Polynesian Village, Bay Lake Tower, and Wilderness Lodge are all scheduled for updates, including fresh decor, brighter color schemes, and expanded DVC villas.
The Big Reveal: Animal Kingdom Lodge
That quiet, behind-the-scenes project? It’s at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. The resort is known for its peaceful atmosphere and savanna views.
Soon, it will begin a multi-phase hard goods refurbishment that will last through early 2027.
July–September 2025: Zebra Trail Terrace at Jambo House gets its refresh.
October 2025–May 2026: Kidani Village rooms are fully redone—furniture, lighting, flooring, and fixtures.
May 2026–January 2027: Jambo House rooms receive the same treatment.
These are the first major updates since the Villas opened between 2007 and 2009, and Murphy beds may join the mix for added space.
Disney in 2027
When the dust settles, Disney will have new lands, revitalized attractions, and resorts that feel brand new. Animal Kingdom Lodge guests can choose between experiencing its current charm or waiting for the fully updated version in 2027.
