Disneyland’s Matterhorn Has Just 42 Days Left

We were going to post about the best churro spots near Fantasyland this week. That is still coming. But someone in our comments dropped the Matterhorn news this morning and now we have to talk about it because the 2026 Disneyland closure situation has officially reached a level that every guest planning a summer or fall trip needs to understand before they show up.

The Matterhorn Bobsleds closes July 20, 2026. No reopening date. And it is joining a refurbishment list that was already one of the heavier ones we have seen in recent years across both parks.

Let’s get into it.

The Matterhorn. Closing July 20. No End Date.

A majestic mountain with rocky formations and a snow-capped peak rises against a backdrop of cloudy skies. Surrounded by lush greenery and tall trees, the scene rivals the grandeur of the tallest roller coaster on earth, set in a natural, picturesque environment.

It is the Matterhorn. We are not going to waste your time explaining what it is. If you are reading a Disneyland blog, you know. You probably have a specific memory attached to it. Maybe multiple.

It goes offline July 20, 2026, for refurbishment. Disney has not announced when it will reopen. Refurbishment timelines at Disneyland shift constantly and without much notice, so “no end date” could mean a few weeks or it could mean several months. There is no way to know right now.

Per Theme Park IQ, “The Matterhorn Bobsleds have been added to the Disneyland refurbishment calendar beginning July 20, 2026. There is no current reopening date and dates are subject to change.”

If your trip is before July 20, you are fine. Book your Lightning Lane, get in line, ride it. If your trip is after July 20, take it off your list for now and check the calendar again close to your departure date. That is the honest advice.

What Is Already Closed at Disneyland Park

The Matterhorn is the newest addition to a closure list that has been building for months.

Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters has been closed since April 13, 2026. No reopening date. Families with kids who live for that ride are going to feel the gap in Tomorrowland.

Pirates of the Caribbean closed May 4, 2026. Also no confirmed return. This one stings for guests whose Disneyland identity is built around the classics. Pirates is not a checkbox. It is a ritual for a lot of people, and it not being available for an extended stretch is genuinely disappointing.

King Arthur Carrousel and Frontierland Shootin’ Exposition both went down July 6, 2026. Both open-ended.

Pixie Hollow is not fully closed but is running a reduced schedule, skipping Tuesdays and Thursdays through July 4. If a character experience there is on your list, check the Disneyland app before you plan your day around it.

California Adventure Is Also Dealing With a Lot

Cross the plaza and you will find a separate set of closures doing their own damage to the park day.

Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind has been closed since January 2026 with no reopening date. Still. It opened to genuinely enthusiastic crowds and has been down for months. The frustration in the community about this one is real and valid.

Silly Symphony Swings closed April 27, 2026. No confirmed return.

Soarin’ Over California closes June 30, but this is a planned swap rather than a refurbishment. Soarin’ Across America takes over July 2 as part of the America 250 programming. If you want the California version, you have a narrow window. If you are arriving in July or later, you are getting the America 250 edition, which is fine, just different.

Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! is confirmed to be permanently closing in 2027. No final date has been set yet. If you love that ride, every visit between now and whenever the closing date is announced is potentially one of the last. We mention this every time we cover the refurbishment schedule because it deserves to be said.

The Avengers Campus expansion has closed the walkway between Avengers Campus and Cars Land. Both areas are still accessible, just through alternate routes. Cars Land goes via the Performance Corridor or San Fransokyo Square. Avengers Campus goes via the Performance Corridor or Hollywood Land. The Service Animal Relief Area has moved to the space between Sarge’s Surplus Hut and Fillmore’s Taste-In.

Hotel Updates Worth Knowing

Two resort situations matter for guests staying on property.

Indoor dining at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at the Disneyland Hotel has been closed since March 2 for refurbishment. Outdoor seating and the full Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar and Grill are still running. If a Trader Sam’s Uh-Oa is part of your trip routine, the outdoor experience is not the same but it is available.

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa is mid-refurbishment through 2026 affecting parts of the property. Construction noise is supposed to be limited to daylight hours, which is the thing most guests actually want to know.

Fall and Winter Planning: Seasonal Closures to Know

If your trip is later in the year, a few closures follow a consistent seasonal pattern worth building into your expectations.

The Haunted Mansion typically closes mid-August for the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay installation, reopening in September. It closes again in early January for overlay removal, reopening mid-month.

it’s a small world usually goes down mid to late October for its holiday overlay, reopening in November. Then closes again mid-January and reopens late January or early February.

Grizzly River Run at California Adventure typically closes early January through February or March for its seasonal refresh.

These are based on past patterns, not confirmed 2026 dates. The Disneyland app is your source for actual confirmed timelines as your trip gets closer.

The Real Talk on All of This

Here is the thing about the 2026 Disneyland closure situation. It is a lot. The Matterhorn, Pirates, Buzz Lightyear, Inside Out, Silly Symphony Swings, and the construction rerouting in California Adventure all hitting in the same stretch is not a small deal for guests who have specific rides on their priority list.

None of it means you should cancel a trip or that Disneyland is not worth visiting right now. It absolutely is. Both parks are still delivering full days of great experiences. But going in thinking you are going to hit a certain list of rides and discovering halfway through the day that half of them are closed is a bad experience that is entirely avoidable with a little advance research.

Check the refurbishment calendar. Check it again close to your departure. And if a specific attraction is genuinely the reason you are making the trip, confirm it is running before you buy the tickets.

If you are building a Disneyland trip around what is actually open right now and want help figuring out where to spend your time and what to eat while you are there, drop it in the comments. Seriously, we love this kind of planning conversation. Tell us your dates, your group, and your priorities and we will give you something actually useful to work with.
