Could Bad Weather Rain on This Disney Park’s Parade, Extending a 3 Year Hiatus?

A popular Disney Park parade that has been on hiatus for nearly three years is slated to return this week… if rain doesn’t stop the show!

Parades are a staple of Disney Parks entertainment. From daytime Walt Disney World shows that are fun for the whole family to dazzling nighttime spectaculars, the elaborate floats, costumes, and fun character sightings truly add whimsy and wonder to a Disney day.

However, the Covid-19 pandemic severely impacted live entertainment due to safety regulations and imposed social distancing/mask restrictions. Of course, the most impacted of all the Disney Parks parades was arguably Magic Happens, where magic comes to life in a celebration of legendary Disney stories.

According to Attractions Magazine, the Disneyland Park parade featuring original music by singer-songwriter Todrick Hall was the first new daytime debut in twenty years. Disneyland Magic Happens parade features over-the-top sets and costumes and introduces newer characters from the most recent Walt Disney Studios successes, such as Moana, Miguel, and Dante from Coco (2017), Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven in Frozen II’s Enchanted Forest.

Mickey Mouse leads the cavalcade of floats, escorting Disney pals throughout the theme park in a magical display. As a result, Disneyland advertised the performance as an “unforgettable spectacle that reminds us you don’t need wings to fly, shooting stars are for wishes and magic doesn’t end at midnight!”

Unfortunately, the magic… ended. After a brief stint after its February 28, 2020 premiere, Disney shuttered the spectacle along with the rest of the Disneyland Resort and has not brought it back since reopening.

Now, the incredible procession of characters will go down Main Street, U.S.A. again, when it returns on February 23, 2023, as part of the Disney100 celebration, 100 Years of Wonder… if recent weather forecasts for the Southern California area don’t rain on our parade!

In fact, the Disneyland website’s “Know Before You Go” section notes: “‘Magic Happens’ Parade may not occur daily and showtimes are subject to change.” Guests should monitor the Disneyland Entertainment Schedule and check the Disneyland app for updated showtimes to ensure that Magic Happens… happens.
