Disneyland Guests Forced to Climb Between Boats After Jungle Cruise Derails
Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise is known for giving guests a boat ride filled with questionable navigation and plenty of jokes. For one group of visitors, though, the trouble with their boat became very real.
Guests had barely started their journey when their Jungle Cruise boat became stuck near the dock. What initially looked like a delay eventually turned into a much more unusual situation.
Disney tried to get the boat moving again, but that didn’t work.
The passengers ultimately had to leave their original vessel and climb onto another Jungle Cruise boat before their adventure could continue.
Jungle Cruise Trip Goes Wrong Almost Immediately
Disneyland guest Paige Bryant documented the unusual experience on Instagram.
According to Bryant, the group had just boarded Jungle Cruise and left the dock when their boat derailed. Disney Cast Members attempted to tow the boat, but they couldn’t successfully free it.
That meant the passengers needed another way out.

Because Jungle Cruise operates on water, guests couldn’t simply step out of their vehicle and walk toward an exit. Another boat had to come alongside the stranded vessel so passengers could transfer between them.
It certainly wasn’t the Jungle Cruise experience they expected when they entered the attraction.
Fortunately, the transfer appears to have gone smoothly.
Bryant also had positive things to say about the Disney employees who responded, praising the Cast Members and crew for how they handled the situation.
Once the guests reached the other boat, their unusual adventure wasn’t over. They were still able to continue through Jungle Cruise and experience the attraction normally.
Disney also reportedly provided the affected guests with a complimentary Lightning Lane pass following the incident.
Did the Jungle Cruise Boat Actually Derail?
Calling the incident a “derailment” can sound confusing considering Jungle Cruise boats travel through water rather than along a traditional ride track.
The attraction doesn’t operate like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or another attraction where vehicles travel directly along steel rails.
Jungle Cruise boats move through the attraction’s waterways using a propulsion system while the skipper handles steering. However, the vessels also use a guidance system beneath the water.
In this case, the boat apparently became stuck near the loading area after coming out of its normal guided path.
Whatever terminology guests use to describe it, the result was the same: the boat couldn’t continue.
Disney initially tried towing the vessel before ultimately deciding to move the passengers onto another boat.
Not the First Jungle Cruise Boat Incident
Jungle Cruise has experienced other unusual boat problems over the years.
In 2020, a boat at the Magic Kingdom version of Jungle Cruise took on water and sank. Images from that incident quickly circulated online as guests stood inside the partially submerged vessel.
Thankfully, this Disneyland situation didn’t reach that point.
There were no reports in the supplied article of passengers entering the water or suffering injuries. Instead, guests transferred onto another boat and continued their trip.
Still, having to abandon your original Jungle Cruise boat is hardly an everyday Disneyland experience.
Most guests expect the attraction’s dangers to involve animatronic animals and scripted jokes. This particular group received something much less predictable.
And while Jungle Cruise skippers spend their days pretending they aren’t always the world’s greatest navigators, these guests now have a story where their boat really didn’t make it very far.
