Disney World Walls Off Another Frontierland Area as Major Transformation Continues

Finding construction walls around Frontierland isn’t particularly difficult these days.

Magic Kingdom is undergoing a major transformation as Disney prepares this side of the park for its future. Now, another set of walls has appeared — although these aren’t surrounding the massive Piston Peak National Park construction site.

Instead, they’re sitting between Liberty Tree Tavern and The Diamond Horseshoe.

The new work comes at an interesting moment for The Diamond Horseshoe, which is preparing to replace its current dining offering with a limited-time pop-up menu.

Disney hasn’t announced a major physical overhaul for the restaurant, making the sudden appearance of construction walls a little unexpected.

Another Magic Kingdom Area Goes Behind Walls

The construction walls currently block a backstage doorway between the two restaurants.

Guests may recognize the area as the spot where the Country Bears typically enter the park. Their appearances haven’t ended because of the project, but the characters are temporarily entering Frontierland near Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe instead.

Disney also filed a permit last month covering “General Construction” in the area. Aim Strategic Group, LLC is listed as the contractor.

What Disney hasn’t done is announce a major renovation of The Diamond Horseshoe or Liberty Tree Tavern.

That means it’s worth keeping expectations in check.

The construction could ultimately involve relatively routine work around the backstage doorway rather than anything that substantially changes either restaurant.

But The Diamond Horseshoe does have a replacement on the way.

The Diamond Horseshoe Is Changing Its Dining Offering

Following the closure of Jessie’s Roundup, The Diamond Horseshoe is set to introduce a limited-time pop-up menu.

The dining change was already notable, but there wasn’t necessarily an expectation that it would require noticeable construction around the building.

The restaurant will likely remain largely the same physically unless Disney announces otherwise.

For guests walking through the area, however, seeing walls outside The Diamond Horseshoe adds another wrinkle to an already changing section of Magic Kingdom.

Frontierland’s Transformation Is Much Bigger

Just beyond this smaller project, Disney is carrying out one of Magic Kingdom’s most consequential transformations in decades.

Piston Peak National Park is coming to the park as part of a Cars-inspired expansion.

Its development follows the permanent closures of the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat. Those removals cleared the way for Disney to reshape a substantial portion of the park.

Against that backdrop, the walls near The Diamond Horseshoe are relatively small.

But they’re also another visual sign of just how much construction is happening around this portion of Magic Kingdom.

For now, Disney hasn’t announced anything suggesting The Diamond Horseshoe is receiving a major physical overhaul. What we do know is that its dining offering is changing, a general construction permit was filed, and walls are now standing outside.

With Piston Peak already transforming the surrounding landscape, Frontierland continues to look a little different with each passing month.
