Disney World Revives Divisive Jollywood Nights Event at Hollywood Studios
Disney’s most debated Christmas party is officially making a comeback.
While Walt Disney World has not yet released full details for Jollywood Nights 2026, new performer casting calls tied directly to the event have essentially confirmed its return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios this holiday season.
That news will likely excite plenty of fans who’ve grown attached to the event’s vintage Hollywood atmosphere and unique entertainment lineup.
At the same time, it’s also bringing back criticism that has followed Jollywood Nights almost since the moment it debuted.

Because even though the event has improved significantly over the years, many Disney fans still aren’t convinced the experience fully works.
Jollywood Nights Has Always Felt Different From Disney’s Other Christmas Party
From the beginning, Disney clearly wanted Jollywood Nights to stand apart from Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
Instead of focusing entirely on traditional Christmas nostalgia, Hollywood Studios leaned into glamorous holiday aesthetics, live music, specialty lounges, unique stage shows, and a more nightlife-inspired atmosphere.
That approach immediately made the event feel different.
For some guests, that difference became the biggest selling point. Hollywood Studios at Christmas already has one of the best nighttime atmospheres anywhere at Walt Disney World, especially around Sunset Boulevard and Echo Lake.
Jollywood Nights took advantage of that beautifully.
The park transforms with glowing decorations, projection effects, themed entertainment, and holiday music that feels more cinematic than cozy. Disney also loaded the event with exclusive offerings that fans can’t typically experience during regular park hours.
That includes rare characters, specialty food and drinks, nighttime spectaculars, and lower wait times for attractions.
But while the atmosphere often gets praised, the event’s structure has remained a major source of frustration.
Guests Continue Complaining About the Event’s Limited Hours
The biggest issue is time.
Many guests feel Jollywood Nights simply doesn’t offer enough hours for everything Disney promotes during the event.
Hollywood Studios becomes packed with entertainment options during the party. Guests can watch live shows, meet rare characters, ride attractions, grab exclusive food items, and explore themed areas across the park.
The problem is fitting all of that into one evening.
Even allowing guests in at 5:30 p.m. doesn’t give much extra time compared to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, which allows guests to enter Magic Kingdom at 4:00 p.m.
That shorter timeframe has created constant complaints from guests who feel rushed all night long.
Instead of relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere, many visitors end up aggressively prioritizing experiences just to feel like they’re getting their money’s worth.
Do you wait for characters? Watch the skating show? Catch the nighttime spectacular? Ride attractions? Mobile order food?
For a lot of families, it becomes impossible to do everything.
That feeling has continued fueling criticism online, especially given the premium pricing attached to the event.

Early Hollywood Studios Closures Remain a Sensitive Topic
Jollywood Nights has also become controversial for another reason: it forces Hollywood Studios to close early on select dates.
That’s become increasingly frustrating for regular daytime guests.
The holiday season already brings massive crowds to Walt Disney World, and many families only visit once every several years. Losing nighttime hours at Hollywood Studios can dramatically affect trip planning, especially for guests hoping to experience major attractions after dark.
And Hollywood Studios is not a park where people casually skip nighttime.
Galaxy’s Edge looks completely different at night. Sunset Boulevard becomes one of Disney World’s prettiest holiday areas. Tower of Terror projections help create one of the resort’s strongest evening atmospheres.
When the park closes early for a separately ticketed event, some guests feel like they’re losing part of the full Disney experience unless they pay extra.
That criticism has grown louder as Disney continues expanding premium add-on experiences across the resort.
Disney Has Quietly Improved the Event Year After Year
To be fair, Disney has made major improvements since Jollywood Nights first launched.
The original version of the event faced widespread criticism over long waits, crowd management issues, and operational problems. Some guests left genuinely disappointed after spending large amounts of money on tickets.
Disney responded quickly.
Since then, the company has improved event logistics, expanded entertainment offerings, added more characters, and created a smoother overall experience.
Many guests who returned for later seasons admitted the party felt significantly better organized.
The event also started embracing its identity more confidently.
Rather than trying to recreate Magic Kingdom’s Christmas formula, Jollywood Nights became more focused on stylish entertainment, old Hollywood ambiance, and unique offerings that fit Hollywood Studios specifically.
That shift helped the event stand out.
The skating performances near the Chinese Theater became a fan favorite, while themed shows and live entertainment gave the party more personality than it originally had.
Disney clearly learned from early mistakes.
The Debate Around Jollywood Nights Isn’t Going Anywhere
Despite those changes, the divide surrounding Jollywood Nights still exists.
Some Disney fans absolutely love the event now. They enjoy the lower attraction waits, nighttime atmosphere, exclusive entertainment, and more relaxed adult-focused energy compared to other holiday offerings.
Others continue viewing it as an expensive experience that doesn’t provide enough value for the time guests actually get inside the park.
That split reaction has almost become part of the event’s reputation.
Still, Disney bringing the event back for 2026 proves the company believes it’s working well enough to continue investing in.
And honestly, that probably shouldn’t surprise anyone.
Holiday parties remain enormously profitable for Disney. They also create extra demand during one of the busiest travel periods of the year. Hollywood Studios provides a strong backdrop for nighttime entertainment, and Disney likely sees Jollywood Nights as something that can continue evolving over time.
The question now is whether Disney eventually expands the experience further or keeps asking guests to squeeze everything into one short evening.
Because while the event may have improved dramatically, the same core criticism keeps resurfacing every single year.
