Disney World Reverses Year-Long Closure at Popular Magic Kingdom Attraction

Walt Disney World has finally reversed a lengthy closure at one of Magic Kingdom’s most popular family attractions, bringing back a feature that guests haven’t been able to fully enjoy for more than a year.

While Disney continues making major changes throughout Magic Kingdom, including construction projects and attraction refurbishments, some smaller updates are happening at longtime favorites.

One of those changes involves a beloved Fantasyland attraction that has entertained generations of Disney guests.

And for families visiting Magic Kingdom with young children, this particular reopening could make their next visit a little easier.

Disney World Finally Reopens Long-Closed Area

According to WDW News Today, Disney World has reopened the second level of the indoor playground at Dumbo the Flying Elephant in Magic Kingdom.

The outlet confirmed the reopening on Monday, October 26, 2026, after observing children playing in the elevated, netted portion of the attraction’s queue.

The second level had reportedly remained unavailable for at least a year, even though the attraction itself continued operating.

Now, Disney has restored access to the previously closed area, allowing children to enjoy more of the playground while waiting for their turn to ride.

Disney hasn’t publicly explained why the second level remained closed for so long or what led to its reopening.

However, the change marks the end of an extended closure that prevented families from experiencing the entire playground.

Why This Reopening Matters for Magic Kingdom Families

Unlike most attractions at Walt Disney World, Dumbo the Flying Elephant offers an indoor playground where children can play instead of spending their entire wait standing in a traditional queue.

The attraction, located in the Storybook Circus section of Fantasyland, features a circus-themed play area designed to keep younger visitors entertained.

Parents and caregivers can also take advantage of nearby seating while their children explore.

For families navigating a busy day at Magic Kingdom, this setup offers a welcome alternative to waiting in another lengthy line.

The reopening of the second level means children once again have access to additional play space, something that has been missing for an extended period.

It’s a relatively small operational change, but one that could make a noticeable difference for families with younger children.

Dumbo Has Already Experienced Multiple Changes

The latest reopening follows another lengthy refurbishment involving the attraction’s indoor playground.

Disney previously closed the play area for refurbishment in February 2025. Although its reopening was delayed, the playground eventually welcomed guests again in July 2025.

However, the second level remained closed even after the rest of the playground reopened.

That meant families could enjoy the attraction’s indoor waiting area but couldn’t access every part of it.

Now, more than a year later, Disney has finally restored the missing portion.

The reopening also comes as Magic Kingdom prepares for the busy holiday season, when families will be visiting Walt Disney World for seasonal entertainment and attractions.

While Dumbo the Flying Elephant itself hasn’t received a major ride overhaul, the restored playground offers an improvement to the overall guest experience.

For Disney fans who have wondered when the upper level would return, the wait is finally over.

And with another popular family-friendly space fully accessible again, Magic Kingdom guests have one less closure to worry about during their upcoming vacations.
