Couple Gets Trapped on Disney World Ride, Abandoned and Alone
On Sunday, a couple shared their experience of being trapped on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover…alone. The Disney Park guests were the only ones in their ride vehicle when it suddenly stopped moving.
The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover first invited Magic Kingdom Park guests on a slow-moving tour of the futuristic land on July 1, 1975. It followed the success of Disneyland Resort’s PeopleMover, which ultimately closed in 1995. Although the ride’s track still exists in Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park, the Rocket Rods attraction reportedly compromised the structure. Walt Disney Imagineering has said it would take substantial work to bring it up to modern construction code. As of now, the Magic Kingdom is the only Disney park with an operating version of The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover.
The PeopleMover might not be the most thrilling Disney Park attraction, but it still utilizes complicated technology that wears down while being used by thousands of guests daily. It’s known for stopping mid-ride, sometimes requiring evacuations.
On Sunday, TikTok user @samsadventurouslife shared this video of herself and her partner trapped on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover after the ride suddenly ceased operations. What made the shutdown unusual was the fact that the TikToker and her partner were the only ones in their ride vehicle, left alone in a tunnel.
@samsadventurouslife Not me like, please don’t leave us here Disney 😅 #disney #peoplemover #disneyworld #disneyparks #disneytiktok #magickingdom @Disney Parks @Disney
“Not me like, please don’t leave us here Disney,” the TikToker captioned the video.
In the comments, some Disney Parks fans said it was their dream to get stuck on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover. In response, the TikToker described it as “eerie at first but then enjoyable.”
“Omg yes!” @beautiful.life200112 commented. “I would be stepping out and start exploring.”
“It was so tempting!” the Disney Park guest replied.
Whether the ride started moving again or Disney cast members evacuated guests remains unclear.
Walt Disney World Resort didn’t comment publicly on this Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover breakdown. However, the attraction eventually reopened and has operated normally in the days since.
