Walt Disney World has officially closed one of Magic Kingdom’s newest attractions, and the shutdown comes as troubling incidents continue raising questions about guest safety.
Since opening in 2024, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has experienced operational challenges, unexpected interruptions, and growing scrutiny from visitors.
However, some of the most concerning situations have involved guests leaving their ride vehicles, including incidents near the attraction’s massive final drop.
Now, Disney has temporarily shut down the popular Frontierland attraction for an extended refurbishment, although the company has not connected the closure to those safety concerns.

Disney World Closes Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Until December
As of November 2, 2026, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is officially closed at Magic Kingdom.
The attraction will remain unavailable for more than six weeks, with Disney currently scheduling its reopening for December 18.
The refurbishment also affects Tiana’s Bayou General Store, the merchandise location near the ride’s exit. However, Critter Co-Op, located near the entrance, remains open.
On the first day of the closure, the attraction’s water systems were visibly inactive, several log-shaped ride vehicles were positioned outside their usual operating locations, and work lights illuminated portions of the attraction.
This marks the first major extended refurbishment for the Magic Kingdom attraction since its June 2024 opening.
While Disney regularly performs seasonal maintenance on water attractions, this closure arrives amid separate concerns about passengers exiting their boats.
Dangerous Rider Incidents Raise Questions
One of the most frightening reported incidents occurred at Disneyland Park, where a young boy reportedly exited his ride vehicle near the attraction’s approximately 50-foot drop.
The child fell down the steep descent outside the boat but reportedly survived without serious injury.
Other incidents involving children and adults leaving their boats have also been reported at both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom.
These situations are particularly concerning because Tiana’s Bayou Adventure relies on guests remaining seated throughout the experience.
The attraction’s log-shaped vehicles travel through water-filled channels, smaller drops, and a dramatic final plunge.
Passengers who attempt to leave their vehicles risk slipping, falling into restricted areas, or encountering moving ride equipment.

Although cast members follow established safety procedures, unexpected guest behavior can create dangerous situations.
Importantly, Disney has not confirmed that these incidents contributed to the current refurbishment.
Will Disney Make Changes Before Reopening?
With Tiana’s Bayou Adventure closed until December 18, Disney has several weeks to perform maintenance and inspect the attraction.
However, the company has not announced any new restraints, boarding procedures, or operational changes addressing guests who leave their boats.
The refurbishment was scheduled in advance, and there is no confirmed evidence that Disney ordered the shutdown because of the reported incidents.
Nevertheless, the situation raises questions about whether additional precautions could help prevent similar incidents.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure replaced Splash Mountain in 2024, introducing a new storyline inspired by The Princess and the Frog (2009) while retaining the original attraction’s recognizable log-flume system.
Despite its updated appearance, the attraction still depends on guests following instructions throughout the ride.
For now, Magic Kingdom visitors will have to wait until December 18 to experience Tiana’s Bayou Adventure again.
Whether Disney introduces any noticeable changes remains uncertain, but the reported incidents serve as a reminder that ignoring ride safety instructions can have serious consequences.
