Guests heading to Walt Disney World this weekend could experience something that has been missing from Central Florida for months: genuinely cool mornings.
After a long stretch of summer heat and humidity, temperatures around Disney World are expected to fall into the 60s during the early morning hours. It will mark the first time since June that the area has experienced morning temperatures that low.
For vacationers, that might mean digging a sweatshirt out of the suitcase.
While temperatures in the 60s aren’t exactly freezing, the change could feel surprisingly dramatic after months of hot Florida weather. More importantly, the cooler air could change everything from what guests wear in the morning to how long they feel comfortable staying outside.
Cooler Mornings Arrive at Disney World
A cold front moving through Central Florida is bringing drier and cooler air into the region.
Friday night into Saturday morning could bring temperatures down into the 60s. The timing is notable because Disney World has just come through an exceptionally hot summer.
The cooler pattern should continue through the weekend. Saturday through Monday are expected to bring highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s, while rain chances remain at 20% or lower.
For vacationers accustomed to dodging afternoon storms and searching for air conditioning, that’s a significant change.
It could also make arriving at the parks early much more enjoyable.
Guests heading to Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom early in the morning won’t immediately face the heat that has dominated recent months.
However, they may encounter another problem: figuring out what to wear.
Packing for Disney World Gets More Complicated
A morning temperature in the 60s could make shorts and a T-shirt feel a little chilly, particularly if the wind remains noticeable.
Bringing a light jacket or sweatshirt makes sense, but guests probably won’t want to wear it all day.
Afternoon temperatures should still reach the 80s, meaning that comfortable morning sweatshirt could become an annoyance a few hours later.
Layers could be the easiest solution.
Guests might want to wear their normal warm-weather clothing while carrying something lightweight for mornings and evenings. A sweatshirt that can easily fit inside a backpack could be particularly useful.
And don’t forget sunscreen just because temperatures are lower.
Florida sunshine can still be intense when temperatures are comfortable, and guests can spend hours outside during a typical park day.
The Weather Could Make Long Park Days More Comfortable
The temperature change could ultimately be great news for guests planning to spend an entire day inside the parks.
Walking around Disney World in extreme heat can become exhausting quickly. Cooler morning temperatures may allow visitors to enjoy several hours of attractions, shopping, and entertainment before the afternoon gets warmer.
Even nighttime could feel different.
Instead of remaining hot and humid well after sunset, temperatures should become more comfortable as the evening progresses.
That could make nighttime shows, outdoor dining, and those final few attractions before park closing more enjoyable.
Guests planning resort pool time should still have opportunities to swim, too. Afternoon highs in the 80s should remain warm enough for many visitors, although getting out of the pool after sunset could feel considerably cooler.
The Heat Isn’t Gone for Good
Guests shouldn’t mistake this weekend’s weather for the permanent arrival of fall.
Conditions could begin changing again next week.
Temperatures are expected to climb back into the mid-to-upper 80s by Tuesday and Wednesday. Increasing moisture could also send heat index values back into the 90s, while rain and storm chances increase.
Anyone taking a longer Disney vacation should pack for both conditions.
This weekend could bring a welcome taste of cooler weather, but shorts, sunscreen, and plenty of water aren’t going anywhere just yet.
Still, after months of Central Florida heat, waking up for a Disney park day with temperatures in the 60s might feel like a vacation upgrade all by itself.
