Disney Files Permit for Hollywood Studios Skyliner Station
Permits are usually the first honest signal about what Disney is planning.
Announcements come with concept art and a stage. Permits come with an address, a contractor, and a scope of work, filed months before anyone says anything publicly. That is why people who follow Walt Disney World watch county filings instead of waiting for press releases.
A new one just landed, and it touches transportation that a lot of guests use daily.
Disney has filed a construction permit for the Skyliner station at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The Disney Filing
Filed the morning of August 28, 2026.
It grants Buena Vista Construction Company the right to “provide labor, material, and/or electrical for construction.” Buena Vista is Disney’s in-house construction arm, so that part is routine.
The address listed is 785 Studio Dr., the Skyliner station outside Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The permit expires one year out.
That window does not mean the work takes a year. Permits get pulled with generous expirations for scheduling flexibility, and plenty expire without much visible happening. It does mean Disney can do construction at that station any time before late August 2027.
What It Doesn’t Say
This is where permit coverage usually goes wrong.
The filing does not describe the project. It does not indicate a closure. It does not confirm guests will notice anything.
“Labor, material, and/or electrical for construction” is deliberately broad. That covers a mechanical overhaul, a lighting swap, or routine systems maintenance equally well.
Work is planned. Scale is unknown.
The Timing Is the Interesting Part
The Skyliner is already scheduled to close for refurbishment from January 24 through January 30, 2027. Complimentary bus service will be available.
Disney typically closes the Skyliner in January. It’s the slowest stretch of the calendar, and the logical window for maintenance on a system that runs from before the park opens until well after close.
So two readings make sense.
One, Disney is filing ahead of that January refurbishment. Normal planning.
Two, this covers unrelated work happening sooner, which is where guest impacts would come in.
Neither is confirmed.
What Impacts Could Look Like at Disney
If work happens outside January, the effects would likely be modest.
Station-level work could mean temporary walls, shifted queue paths, or reduced loading capacity at certain hours. Any of that slows boarding at one of the network’s busiest points, especially at park close.
A full station closure would hurt more. Hollywood Studios is one of only two theme park stations in the system. Guests heading to Caribbean Beach, Pop Century, Art of Animation, or Riviera would get redirected to buses.
None of this is announced. It is just the range of what station work can involve.
Why Skyliner News Travels Fast
The scale explains the reaction.
The Disney Skyliner opened in 2019 as a complimentary gondola system. Five stations connecting Disney’s Hollywood Studios and EPCOT’s International Gateway to four resorts:

- Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
- Disney’s Pop Century Resort
- Disney’s Riviera Resort
More than 250 cabins, each holding up to 10 guests, or six with an open wheelchair or scooter. Many are themed with Disney characters, attraction figures, and film favorites.
Hours are long. It opens an hour before Early Theme Park Entry at EPCOT or Hollywood Studios and closes 90 minutes after either park closes. On EPCOT Extended Evening Hours nights, it closes 1 hour after the park closes and runs only between International Gateway and Riviera. The Caribbean Beach, Pop Century, and Art of Animation route is unavailable at that time.
Guests at those four resorts plan entire days around this system.
What to Watch
Right now, this is a filing. Nothing more.
Work starting before January would appear as construction walls or scrim at the station, not as an announced closure.
If nothing appears by winter, January 24 through 30 is the likely home for whatever this covers.
Either way, anyone with a trip during that late January window should plan on buses to Hollywood Studios and the Skyliner resorts.
