Disney+ Viewers Rage Over ‘Absurd’ Issue, Threatening to Cancel Subscriptions
In the nearly six years since its launch, Disney+ has quickly become a major player in the streaming world. Initially, it was the go-to service for Disney fans, offering a treasure trove of beloved films, timeless Disney Channel classics, and exclusive original content.
As Disney+ celebrates its steady rise to nearly 160 million subscribers, it’s clear that its presence has become a cornerstone of the streaming industry.

However, despite the streaming giant’s massive success, all is not well in the world of Disney+. Many users are increasingly vocal about their dissatisfaction with the service, with several Disney+ subscribers now threatening to cancel due to a “ridiculous” issue that’s left them frustrated and unable to enjoy the service they’ve paid for.
One Reddit user, who goes by the handle ValuableSwimmer4940, recently took to the platform to share her ordeal, shedding light on what many Disney+ users are calling a baffling and annoying flaw.

The issue revolves around the “I’m Away” feature, a handy tool that allows users to access the Disney+ app while traveling. However, it seems that this feature has its limitations.
According to the Reddit post, once a subscriber uses the “I’m Away” option too many times, they’re blocked from using the service altogether.
The user shared a screenshot from her TV, showing a message from Disney+ stating that she had used up all her “I’m Away” options. As a result, she was unable to stream any content. In her Reddit post, she expressed her disbelief: “Since when is this a thing? Wack as hell 🤦🏻♂️.”

The post, which quickly gained traction with over 1,500 upvotes and numerous comments, highlights just how pervasive this issue has become.
But this problem isn’t just affecting one user — many Disney+ subscribers have shared similar frustrations. Some users are reporting that they’re receiving the “I’m Away” error even when they’re at home, leading to confusion and further aggravation.
In one comment, a user explained that after moving to a new house, Disney+ continued to show the “I’m Away” message, despite their attempts to update her household details.
“I moved house 4 months ago, and 2-3 times a week, I get these messages. I keep clicking update household, and when that stops working, I use ‘I’m Away.’ But when that stops working, I have to contact Disney+ support, and they fix the problem—only for it to reappear again. I feel like I’m caught in a loop.”

As the issue persists, many Disney+ subscribers are considering canceling their memberships. Several commented on the post that they were so fed up with the recurring problems that they felt it might be time to say goodbye to the service altogether.
One particularly pointed out the irony of Disney, a company that prides itself on being family-friendly, causing such headaches for families trying to enjoy content together.
It’s not just individual complaints — Disney+ has faced its share of struggles in recent months. Although the service turned a profit in the third quarter of 2024, thanks in part to CEO Bob Iger’s focus on the streaming platform, the road to profitability has been rocky.
The company faced billions in losses during the tenure of former CEO Bob Chapek, and in the last quarter of 2024, Disney+ saw a net loss of 700,000 subscribers. These losses were largely attributed to expiring promotions and price increases.
While the platform’s financials have improved, the technical issues like the “I’m Away” feature have continued to annoy loyal subscribers. This latest snafu is a reminder that even as Disney+ works to fix its bottom line, it has plenty of work to do in order to keep subscribers happy.

I joined D+ as soon as it became available in the UK. I made the mistake of always paying annually in advance. I will not renew when due. The entire service is second rate and no match for Netflix. Not enough new stuff, and what D+ calls new, is not.
