Disney+ Slashes Streaming Prices — But Loyal Subscribers Won’t See the Savings

For years, Disney fans have watched the cost of Disney+ slowly climb. What began as one of the most affordable streaming services on the market has gradually become more expensive as Disney expanded its catalog, introduced new bundle options, and adjusted its pricing strategy.

Now, after several rounds of increases, Disney is suddenly offering something fans haven’t seen in a while: a significant price drop.

But there’s an important catch. While the new promotion offers major savings for some viewers, it doesn’t apply to the people who have already been paying for the service all along.

In other words, Disney+ is getting cheaper—but not for everyone.

The Price of Disney+ Has Been Rising

When Disney+ launched in 2019, the service immediately attracted millions of subscribers. The platform promised a massive library of Disney classics, Pixar films, Marvel content, Star Wars series, and National Geographic programming all under one subscription.

Early pricing helped fuel that rapid growth. Compared to other streaming platforms, Disney+ felt like an incredible value for families and fans.

But like many streaming services, the price didn’t stay low forever.

Over the past few years, Disney has introduced new tiers, bundled streaming packages, and regular price adjustments. The ad-supported version of Disney+ now costs more than it once did, and the ad-free plan has also climbed steadily.

For longtime subscribers who stuck with the platform through every adjustment, the total monthly cost has slowly grown.

That’s why the company’s newest promotion is raising eyebrows.

A New Bundle Deal Drops the Price

Disney has rolled out a limited-time deal that dramatically lowers the cost of its Disney+ and Hulu bundle.

For new and returning subscribers, the bundle with ads is now available for just $4.99 per month for the first three months. After that promotional period ends, the subscription automatically renews at the regular monthly price.

That introductory price represents a massive discount compared to what subscribers normally pay.

For someone who has been considering trying Disney+ again—or signing up for the first time—the offer is extremely attractive. Access to both Disney+ and Hulu for under five dollars per month is one of the lowest streaming prices currently available from a major service.

And because the bundle includes both platforms, viewers get a wide mix of family content, blockbuster films, television shows, and original series.

From a marketing perspective, it’s a smart move.

Loyal Subscribers Don’t Qualify

However, there’s one detail that longtime Disney fans may find frustrating.

The promotion is only available to new or returning subscribers. Anyone who already has an active Disney+ subscription cannot take advantage of the discounted rate.

Even some users who are in the process of canceling their service or who pay annually may find that they don’t qualify for the deal.

That means the very customers who have supported Disney+ through multiple price increases won’t see any savings from the new promotion.

From a business standpoint, this strategy isn’t unusual. Streaming companies frequently offer steep discounts to attract new subscribers or win back customers who previously canceled.

But for loyal subscribers who have remained with the service since its early days, the situation can feel a bit unfair.

Many of those fans have been paying full price while Disney experimented with new tiers, pricing models, and bundled streaming packages.

Disney+ Continues Expanding Subscriber Perks

While the promotion doesn’t help current subscribers directly, Disney has tried to add additional benefits tied to the Disney+ membership.

In recent months, Disney+ subscribers have received access to various limited-time perks and promotions. Some of these offers extend beyond streaming and connect directly to Disney’s broader entertainment ecosystem.

For example, Disney+ members recently received access to a special Walt Disney World ticket promotion offering a three-day, three-park ticket starting at $109 per day.

There have also been sweepstakes, giveaways, and bonus partnerships with outside brands, including app trials and themed prizes.

These perks are meant to add value to the subscription, even if they don’t reduce the monthly price itself.

Still, for many fans, the biggest perk would simply be paying less.

Streaming Competition Is Driving New Deals

The reality is that the streaming market has become incredibly competitive.

Disney+, Netflix, Max, Paramount+, Peacock, and several other platforms are all fighting for the same audience. With so many services competing for attention—and monthly subscription budgets—companies are constantly experimenting with new pricing strategies.

Discounted promotions are one of the most effective ways to bring in new users.

By offering a low introductory price, Disney can attract curious viewers who may have been hesitant to subscribe at the regular rate.

Once those customers are inside the ecosystem, the hope is that they’ll stick around long after the promotional period ends.

A Deal Worth Taking—If You Qualify

For fans who qualify, the new Disney+ and Hulu bundle promotion is genuinely one of the best streaming deals available right now.

Paying $4.99 per month for access to two major streaming libraries—even if only for three months—is a significant savings.

But the promotion also highlights a familiar frustration within the streaming world: new customers often receive the best deals, while longtime subscribers continue paying the standard rate.

For loyal Disney+ users, the latest price drop may feel like a missed opportunity.

Still, for anyone who has been thinking about returning to Disney+, the current promotion might be the perfect excuse to jump back into the platform’s growing catalog of movies, shows, and original content.
