On June 7, 2025, Muppet*Vision 3D gave its final performance, officially closing a chapter that has spanned more than 30 years. The surrounding Muppets Courtyard—including PizzeRizzo and the Stage 1 Company Store—was sealed off the very next day. Rolling planters now mark the closure, and the area has disappeared from park maps.

Guests who grew up with the show and its vibrant cast—including Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, and others—gathered to say their farewells. Across social media, fans shared heartfelt tributes and came together in themed outfits to celebrate the show that served as Jim Henson’s final Muppet project.

Though this corner of the park has gone quiet, construction has quickly filled the space. Demolition is already underway, with the Stage 1 Company Store reduced to rubble by early August. The area is being reimagined as a brand-new Monstropolis-themed land, based on Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. Headlining the expansion will be the Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster, a suspended roller coaster that will debut in the near future—marking a first-of-its-kind attraction for Walt Disney World.

The original Muppet*Vision theater and PizzeRizzo building will remain intact but will be incorporated into the new land. Although this marks a major shift for the area, Muppets fans won’t have to wait long for another chance to catch their favorite characters in action.

In 2026, the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster is set to reopen with a brand-new Muppets overlay, giving the beloved characters a fresh—and wild—take on thrills. And before that, the Muppets will be stepping into the spotlight this holiday season.

To honor their 70th anniversary, the Muppets will lead this year’s runDisney holiday virtual event, the runDisney Virtual 12Ks of Christmas. Registration for the race opens on August 19 at $267, inviting fans to join in a festive fitness celebration.

The runDisney site promises “the most sensational, inspirational, celebrational, Muppetational holiday event,” with three 4K races hosted by fan-favorite duos: the Miss Piggy and Foo Foo 4K, the Gonzo and Camilla 4K, and the Kermit and Robin 4K. Participants can complete their 2.49-mile races anytime between December 1 and December 31.

Since it’s a virtual event, runners can take part wherever and whenever they choose, with themed digital tools like customizable race bibs and finisher certificates. Runners will also receive exclusive 70th-anniversary Muppets medals—three 4K medals and one Challenge medal—that double as ornaments, all unique to this event.

“Make some merry mayhem this December,” the official description reads. “Join this year’s virtual run—bursting with more cheer, more fun, and just the right amount of wocka wocka!”

As one Muppet curtain closes at Walt Disney World, new adventures are just around the corner. Whether on a coaster or a holiday run, the Muppets are far from finished.

Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his… More »
