If you’ve visited EPCOT over the past couple of years, then you know that the theme park is undergoing a massive, multi-year transformation. Since it opened, EPCOT had been divided into two sections, Future World and the World Showcase. Now, the World Showcase will remain, but Future World will be divided into three distinct neighborhoods — World Celebration, World Nature, and World Discovery. It is in the World Nature pavilion that Guests will soon find a new attraction — Journey of Water, inspired by the hit 2016 film Moana.
We don’t know the details of the attraction, but Disney has said that the experience will “let guests interact with magical, living water in a beautiful and inspiring setting”. However, Imagineer Zach Riddley is now sharing new details about what the area will look like. Riddley took to Instagram to share this first look and more details on what Imagineers are doing behind the scenes.
Today I’m excited to share more details from our Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana attraction coming to EPCOT. This image is a preview of the graphic style that will be used throughout the attraction, inspired by the design and visual language of the Walt Disney Animation Studios film “Moana.” Our team created many original pieces that focus on the dynamic movement of water as it travels around the experience. Graphics like these will guide guests through the cycle of water in fun and engaging ways to tell our story of the vital link we share with water across our planet, and inspire the important role we all share in preserving this life-giving and life-sustaining precious resource.
We’ll have much more to share soon on the details Imagineers are creating to bring this new attraction to life in World Nature.

As you can see from the image, Guests will have a chance to experience water in a number of ways, from lakes to oceans, rain, rivers, and more. EPCOT has several areas of the Park dedicated to helping people learn more about the land and how we can keep it safe. Guests can ride attractions like Living With the Land to see how Disney conservationists are growing many different types of food without leaving a large carbon footprint. They can also learn more about the creatures who live underwater in the Seas With Nemo and Friends pavilion. Journey of Water will be one more incredible way Guests can learn about the nature surrounding them.
Disney has not announced when the Moana experience will open, but it is expected to be sometime in 2023. Disney is currently working on all new neighborhoods at the same time and opened its newest roller coaster, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, in the World Discovery neighborhood. A new restaurant also just opened in the World Celebration area called Connections Eatery. You can take a look at the Connections Eatery menu by clicking here.
