Disney Reinvents How Guests Will Meet Characters at Resort

Across all four theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort, one timeless tradition continues to delight guests of all ages—meeting beloved Disney characters. Whether it’s waving to them during a parade, sharing a meal in a themed restaurant, or visiting a designated greeting location like Princess Fairytale Hall, character encounters remain a cherished part of the Disney experience.

Now, Disney is introducing a new way to help guests find those magical moments more easily—especially in outdoor and less prominent locations. At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, cast members have begun using handheld signs featuring the character who’s meeting guests. These signs clearly show where the line begins and ends, offering an easier and more organized way for guests to join the fun.

Photos captured by WDWNT show these signs being used for Donald Duck and Pocahontas meet-and-greets, with cast members guiding guests at the designated locations. While this method is currently only being piloted at Animal Kingdom, it’s not yet clear whether similar signs will make their way to Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, or Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Even though this may seem like a small update, enhancements like these can make a significant difference, particularly in a resort as expansive as Walt Disney World. Navigating the parks—especially when it comes to spontaneous character appearances—can sometimes be a challenge. These signs could streamline that process and elevate guest satisfaction even further.

In other character news from the Disney portfolio, Disneyland Resort recently welcomed a groundbreaking new addition to its entertainment offerings. As part of the celebration of Disneyland’s 70th anniversary, the Main Street Opera House debuted Walt Disney—A Magical Life. This unique experience features an animatronic version of Walt Disney himself, offering guests a chance to see a lifelike figure of the visionary sharing his story in a moving and interactive way.

At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his… More »
