Oscars

The 96th Oscars released the nomination list for all ten award categories earlier.

The animated short film Once Upon a Studio (2023) was nominated for best animated short film. As this film brought us so much joy and happiness, we are thrilled to see it receiving some nominations.

Overall, 93 films qualified for the category. This large number was narrowed down to 15 nominations by Short Film and Feature Animation Branch members.

Although we will have to wait until March 10, 2024, to see if this moving short animated film wins the trophy, we are thrilled it was nominated.

Disney’s Once Upon a Studio (2023)

Walt Disney Animation Studios produced Once Upon a Time as part of the 100th anniversary celebration of the Walt Disney Company.

The short was released on October 16, 2023, after premiering on June 11, 2023, at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The short nine-minute film took audience members on a truly magical journey.

In the film, beloved Disney characters come to life throughout the studio. Characters from sixty-two movies are seen heading outdoors to gather for a picture capturing 100 years of magic.

The Once Upon a Studio brought tears to many viewers as touching moments happened throughout the short film. Beloved voices include Jodi Benson, Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, Mandy Moore, and even Robin Williams as Genie, who were heard throughout the film.

With 543 characters in the picture, the film featured so much magic all in one short, quick film. Because it brought so much charm to viewers, we are thrilled that the film made the list for Best Animated Short Film and hope that the hard work put into creating this moving piece of work will receive the Oscar in 2024.

About Jennifer Retzlaff

My name is Jennifer Retzlaff and I became a lifelong Disney fan during my first trip to Walt Disney World in 6th grade. From that moment, Disney became a big part of my life. I live in Iowa with my husband and two kids who are growing up too quickly for my liking. I started introducing my love for Disney early to my family with a Disney honeymoon and then trips when our youngest of 18 months. Since then, our family has been to Walt Disney World over five times and we continue to plan and dream for the next trip. I love the magic that Disney brings to people through the theme parks, cruises, adventures and movies they create. As a teacher, I try to bring that magic into my classroom to help kids believe that “If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It.” I recently reached a dream of mine as I joined Magic Vacation Planner as a personal travel advisor. With this team, I can now help others plan magical vacations. As a passionate writer, I also have my own blog at magicalvacationsbyjen which is also where you can follow me on instagram for trip reviews along with tips and tricks for your next magical vacation.
