Walt Disney World Pressed Penny Collecting 101 – 5 Tips & Tricks You Should Know

Pressed pennies are some of the most affordable souvenirs you can buy at Walt Disney World! To make it even more fun and exciting – we’ve got five tips and tricks to help you find, press, carry and store your pennies like a pro!

5. Head to the bank like Scrooge McDuck!

Head to your local bank before your trip and get a roll of 50 shiney new pennies! Bonus points if you wear a top hat and stroll in like Scrooge McDuck. You may want to check with your bank well in advance of your trip, because new pennies aren’t always in circulation. It will be worth it! When you press a penny that is new and shiny, it will look that much more magical and beautiful.

4. Pressed penny collecting gives you a reason to buy chocolate!

Search your favorite Target, WalMart, Walgreens, or grocery store for those little plastic tubes of M&M minis to buy and take home. Next, eat all the chocolate inside. Finally, fill the tube with pennies for a perfect and portable container! You can even buy different color containers for each child – or decorate them for a fun afternoon craft. These containers are also the perfect size for quarters which leads us to our next tip.

3. Coins are better in layers!

You will want to stack your coins in your new M&M mini tube. Begin with 2 quarters, 1 penny; 2 quarters, 1 penny, and repeat until the container is full. Now when you approach the penny pressing machine all you have to do is pop the top and slightly tip the container until 2 quarters and a penny fall out. This is all you need to get your next pressed penny made, and it just doesn’t get any easier then that. No muss, no fuss and you’re ready to go in no time!

2. Have Your Treasure Map Ready!

Pressed penny machines are located throughout Walt Disney World parks and resorts. It is a lot of fun to have all of your pennies feature Mickey Mouse or any particular theme of characters that you would like. Are you heading to Epcot all day and just want to collect pennies in that location? You can plan for that too! It’s easy when you know about the Penny Press website:

Use this site to map your course so you don’t have to wonder where the next machine is, or what kind of pressed penny designs it has.

1. Leave the book behind for now!

The display books can get a little cumbersome, and with the sleeves being plastic, they tend to get a little sticky in the heat. You won’t want to put your new treasures in your pockets and risk losing them in the laundry or on Rockin‘ Roller Coaster either. Bring a tiny ziploc bag from your local craft store or an empty change purse and carry your beautiful new pressed pennies with you. Placing your pennies inside the book at the end of the day (in the air-conditioning!) can be a fun thing to look forward to at the end of the day.
