Disney Perk Ruined: Hollywood Studios Guests Face Major Downtime as Exclusive Perk Becomes Obsolete
Planning a Disney World vacation has become almost a full-time job for some families. Between hotel reservations, Lightning Lane selections, dining plans, and park strategies, many guests spend months building the perfect itinerary before they ever arrive in Florida.
Part of that planning revolves around Disney Resort hotel perks. Even though Disney has removed several fan-favorite benefits over the years, resort guests still pay premium prices partly because of the exclusive advantages that remain. But now, one of the most popular benefits at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is frustrating more guests than ever.

Disney Resort Hotels Still Offer Valuable Benefits
Disney Resort guests still receive several perks designed to make vacations smoother.
One of the biggest additions for summer 2026 is free water park admission on check-in day. From May 26 through September 8, 2026, resort guests can visit a Disney water park without paying extra on arrival day.
Hotel guests continue to receive Early Entry access to all four Walt Disney World theme parks. That extra 30 minutes before official opening may not sound huge, but experienced Disney visitors know it can completely change wait times for major rides.
Transportation remains another big selling point. Guests can use Disney buses, Friendship Boats, monorails, and the Skyliner instead of driving around the property themselves. For visitors staying at Skyliner resorts near Hollywood Studios, that fast transportation access often becomes one of the biggest advantages during busy mornings.
Disney Resort guests also receive earlier booking access for dining reservations and Lightning Lane selections, giving them additional planning flexibility before arrival.
Still, for many Hollywood Studios visitors, one perk matters more than all the others.

Rise of the Resistance Became the Ultimate Rope Drop Target
For years, guests have used Early Entry to rush directly toward Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
The attraction inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge remains one of Disney’s biggest crowd magnets thanks to its mix of practical sets, trackless ride vehicles, live cast interactions, and multiple ride systems. It also routinely posts some of the highest wait times anywhere at Walt Disney World.
That is exactly why resort guests try to ride it early.
Many visitors staying at nearby Skyliner resorts wake up before sunrise and arrive at Hollywood Studios well ahead of park opening. Their goal is simple: ride Rise of the Resistance before the standby waits surge later in the morning.
When the ride operates normally, the strategy works extremely well.
The problem is that guests can no longer count on the attraction opening consistently.

Downtime Creates Major Problems Across Hollywood Studios
Rise of the Resistance continues struggling with downtime and delayed openings. Some mornings, the attraction reportedly fails to open at all during Early Entry.
That creates a huge issue for guests who planned their entire morning around riding early.
Instead of entering the Rise of the Resistance queue, crowds suddenly flood toward attractions like Slinky Dog Dash, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and Tower of Terror. Wait times across the park can rise much more quickly when thousands of guests are suddenly forced to change plans at once.
Even guests who intentionally avoided Rise of the Resistance still feel the impact.
Some visitors purposely use Early Entry to enjoy lower waits elsewhere, while most guests rush into Galaxy’s Edge. But if Rise of the Resistance never opens, those crowds quickly spill into every other major attraction instead.
That domino effect is becoming increasingly frustrating for Hollywood Studios fans trying to maximize their expensive resort benefits.

Other Ways To Ride Rise of the Resistance
Guests still have a few backup strategies if Rise of the Resistance is unavailable during Early Entry.
Some visitors recommend riding during lunch or dinner hours when crowds temporarily shift toward restaurants. Others wait until the very end of the night and enter the queue right before Hollywood Studios closes.
That approach comes with some risk, though. If the attraction goes down again near closing time, guests could miss the ride entirely.
Visitors can also purchase a Lightning Lane Single Pass to reduce standby waits. However, even Lightning Lane guests can experience long waits when downtime causes overlapping return windows throughout the day.
