A Walt Disney World Resort fan recently sparked a viral conversation about pricing practices at the Central Florida theme parks after she noticed a surprising price difference between men’s and women’s holiday pajamas. Amanda (@happilyamanda_ on TikTok) shared her discovery from Disney Springs’ World of Disney store, calling it “the biggest scam” she’s encountered at Walt Disney World Resort.

In her video, Amanda showed off the matching plaid Mickey and Minnie Mouse pajama sets available for men, women, and children. But as she checked the price tags, her excitement turned to disbelief: the men’s Mickey Mouse pajama set was priced at $39.99, while the women’s Minnie version was $59.99.

“I have to show you guys probably the biggest scam I have ever seen at Disney, probably ever,” Amanda said in her video, pointing out the $20 price hike for the women’s pajamas. Though the pajamas only differ slightly—Mickey Mouse embroidery and Mickey-shaped buttons for men versus Minnie Mouse embroidery and round buttons for women—the price difference raised some serious questions among Disney Parks fans.

This discovery sparked discussions of the so-called “pink tax,” a term that refers to the higher prices often charged for products marketed to women. In her comments, viewers shared their frustrations and theories about why Disney might price these items differently. One user speculated, “It’s because the wife/girlfriend is the one most likely to want the matching set, and if the men’s one is cheaper it’s easier to convince them to make the purchase bc it’s a ‘deal.'”

“They do this with baby items, too,” said another. “Went to buy a baby bouncer with Minnie Mouse on it, it was $25 more than the exact same one that had Mickey instead.”

Some commenters wondered if the price difference could simply be an error, noting that on the Disney Store website, both the men’s and women’s pajama sets are listed at $49.99, with the children’s versions priced at $34.99. Still, the in-store markup on the women’s pajamas at Disney Springs left many wondering if this was an intentional pricing choice or just a mistake.

So far, Walt Disney World Resort has not issued a statement regarding the price discrepancy.

Is the price difference for these Disney pajamas justified? Share your opinion with Disney Dining in the comments.
