Disney Opens Surprise Toy Story Experience Early at Diamond Horseshoe

Disney World is wasting no time kicking off summer at Magic Kingdom.

Guests visiting Frontierland this weekend discovered that Jessie’s Roundup had already opened inside the Diamond Horseshoe, despite Disney originally announcing a May 26 debut date. The early opening gives families a head start on one of Magic Kingdom’s newest entertainment offerings tied to Cool Kids’ Summer.

And based on early reactions, this may become one of the more useful additions at the park during the hottest months of the year.

Jessie’s Roundup transforms the Diamond Horseshoe into a Toy Story-themed activity space centered around live entertainment, games, music, and character interaction. Disney cleared out much of the traditional restaurant seating to create an open environment where kids can actively participate instead of simply sitting and watching a performance.

That setup feels intentional.

Disney has increasingly leaned toward experiences that keep younger guests moving and engaged rather than relying entirely on traditional theater shows. Jessie’s Roundup continues that trend by making families part of the experience itself.

Guests can participate in western-themed games throughout the room while waiting for rotating live show moments featuring Woody, Jessie, Bullseye, and performers.

One segment focuses on singing and music, while another becomes a full dance and yodeling competition where kids are eventually invited to join in themselves.

Honestly, it sounds more like a high-energy indoor play zone than a traditional Disney attraction.

But that may actually work in its favor.

Magic Kingdom becomes exhausting during summer afternoons, especially for families with smaller children. Finding indoor spaces where kids can cool off and still stay entertained has become increasingly important for many guests planning full park days.

Jessie’s Roundup gives Disney another way to address that problem.

The fact that there’s no official queue also helps. Families can simply walk in, stay for a while, and leave whenever they want. That flexibility keeps the experience from feeling stressful or overly scheduled, which is probably exactly what Disney intended.

The addition also arrives at an interesting time for Frontierland.

The land is currently going through some of the biggest changes in its history as Disney continues preparing for future expansion projects around Magic Kingdom. Longtime fans have already watched several classic Frontierland elements disappear or begin transitioning into something new.

Because of that, Jessie’s Roundup almost feels like Disney trying to inject temporary life and energy back into the area while larger construction projects continue happening nearby.

Fortunately, the Toy Story theme fits surprisingly well.

Woody and Jessie naturally blend into Frontierland’s western atmosphere, so the experience doesn’t feel completely out of place the way some character overlays might elsewhere in the park.

And while this is clearly designed for younger audiences, parents may appreciate it just as much.

An indoor location, interactive entertainment, no reservation system, and a chance to escape the Florida heat for a little while? That combination alone could turn Jessie’s Roundup into one of the busiest spots in Frontierland this summer.

Especially once schools fully let out and Disney World’s seasonal crowds really begin arriving.
