A Walt Disney World Resort guest recently asked for help on social media after melting their family’s MagicBands, rendering the devices useless.
Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort offer two MagicBand styles: MagicBand 2.0 and MagicBand+. MagicBand 2.0 is the most basic option, while MagicBand+ is rechargeable and has special effects synced to experiences throughout the Disney parks.
Guests can use these wristbands (or their removable pucks) to scan their Disney Park tickets, unlock their Disney Resort hotel rooms, pay for meals and souvenirs, access Lightning Lane entrances, and more.
MagicBands used to be included with a Disney Resort hotel stay, but Walt Disney World Resort now offers limited discounted options for onsite guests. Some guests prefer to use their smart devices or plastic ticket cards instead of paying up to $44.99 per guest for a wristband.
Still, some Disney Parks fans prefer the immersion of a MagicBand. Redditor u/KnightoftheDadBod recently purchased a set for their family as a part of their kids’ big Christmas present, a Walt Disney World Resort vacation. Unfortunately, the bracelets never made it to the Disney parks.
“So Santa did a scavenger hunt for the big present, Magic Bands,” the Disney Park guest wrote. “The scavenger hunt ended in the oven. Unfortunately, no one told Dad.”
“So when I set the oven to 375 to bake our Christmas croissants, the bands got baked,” they continued. “What are our options here?”
Disney Parks fans empathized with the guest’s pricey mistake but overwhelmingly agreed that there was nothing Walt Disney World Resort would do to compensate them for user error.
“Disney isn’t replacing your bands because you melted them in the oven,” u/derango commented. “Sucks but lesson learned for the next scavenger hunt. You can use your phone to tap in [and] you can also get physical cards for room and park entry from guest services or your hotel.”
“Take the loss, learn a lesson, and buy new ones,” u/CMac86 agreed.
