Disney Guest Sounds the Alarm About ‘Parrot Scammer’ Operating Near Parks

When you visit the Walt Disney World Resort, one of the most magical moments is driving under the iconic Walt Disney World sign. It’s a feeling that gives you goosebumps, marking the start of a vacation filled with memories to last a lifetime.

However, Disneyland Resort is a different experience altogether. Located in the heart of Anaheim, California, the park is surrounded by the bustling city. Unlike Disney World, where the park is tucked away within its own resort area, Disneyland is right off the highway.

As you exit, the park almost seems to appear out of nowhere. One moment you’re driving, and the next you’re looking out your window at the back of Cars Land or sitting at a red light next to Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!

Since Disneyland is right on a public street, it’s no surprise that vendors and other businesses set up shop just steps from The Happiest Place on Earth.

A recent Reddit post has drawn attention to a “parrot scammer” who allegedly operates just outside Disneyland, targeting unsuspecting families with pushy tactics.

The Allegations

A Reddit user, u/xizas, shared their troubling experience with the individual, who allegedly uses parrots to lure families into an unwanted interaction. The user described the encounter:

“The guy who sits at the entrance to Disneyland on Harborview with his parrots. Not a fan.

He aggressively walks up to families with young kids, places the bird on the kid or other unsuspecting family member, takes their photo, and then demands payment.

He doesn’t wait for people to come to him. He targets families.

Don’t know how much he demands as payment, but it is probably an exorbitant amount.”

The user’s post quickly gained traction, with other Disneyland visitors chiming in to share similar encounters.

Another commenter echoed the concerns, providing more disturbing details about the scammer’s behavior:

“He’s awful! Forced the birds onto my kids, took my phone from me to take pics, and then demanded money. He’s a jerk. Also, those birds are in distress, and you can’t change my mind. I despise him.”

The issue appears to extend beyond the aggressive tactics. Several commenters raised concerns about the welfare of the parrots involved, questioning whether the birds are being properly cared for.

The combination of pushy behavior and potential animal mistreatment has left many visitors feeling uneasy.

A Call to Action

Many Reddit users encouraged reporting the individual to authorities, particularly if they make physical contact or take property without consent.

One user suggested approaching Anaheim police officers, who are often stationed near the park entrance:

“You should have walked up to Anaheim PD that are always posted near the entrance to the bus terminals and said that he grabbed your son without consent so they could deal with him.”

This advice underscores the importance of addressing such incidents immediately to protect other families from similar experiences.

Not the First Incident

This isn’t the first time visitors have reported questionable behavior outside Disneyland. In the past, guests have raised concerns about individuals and groups operating near the park entrance. From religious groups setting up tables in Downtown Disney to aggressive solicitors, these interactions can detract from the magical experience Disneyland aims to provide.

It’s worth noting that while some activities, like the presence of religious groups, are legal and nonintrusive, the alleged actions of the “parrot scammer” cross a line by involving physical contact and uninvited interactions.

Staying Safe at Disneyland

While Disneyland cast members work hard to create a safe and enjoyable environment, guests should remain vigilant in the areas surrounding the park. If approached by individuals like the “parrot scammer,” experts recommend:

  • Politely declining the interaction and walking away.
  • Avoiding physical contact with the animals.
  • Reporting aggressive behavior to Anaheim police or nearby security staff.

The magic of Disneyland begins before stepping into the park. However, as this situation illustrates, visitors should be mindful of their surroundings and prepared to address any uncomfortable encounters.
