Disney Extends Expedition Everest Closure
Guests visiting Animal Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort since the beginning of January have found themselves unable to ride one of the most popular attractions in the Park — Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain. Expedition Everest has been closed since January 4, 2022, as it undergoes a major refurbishment (although if you are expecting the Yeti to finally be fixed, don’t get your hopes up).
Originally, the ride was scheduled to reopen in mid-April, but it looks like that may not happen.
According to the Walt Disney World Refurbishment calendar, Expedition Everest is scheduled to be closed for refurbishment through April 30, 2022.
Disney World’s current refurbishment calendar does not line up with what it says on Disney World’s Expedition Everest page, which currently reads:
From January 4 through mid-April 2022, Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain will be closed for refurbishment.
While it is disappointing to see that the Expedition Everest closure has been extended, it looks like the attraction may finally reopen on May 1. Disney World’s refurbishment calendar also lists Park Hours currently through May 4. Beginning on May 1, Expedition Everest is no longer listed as closed, so we will keep our fingers crossed!
Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain takes Animal Kingdom Guests on a thrilling journey up through the Himalayan Mountains, but their ride is deterred when they encounter the legendary Yeti. Here is more information on the ride from the Walt Disney World website:
Wander into a Tibetan village at the base of Mount Everest and board a train to the “top of the world.” Beware: Some say a legendary snow monster lives deep in the mountain.
After a steep ascent, your train picks up speed and races into the darkness. Without warning, a broken and twisted track appears in front of you. Brace yourself as you plummet backward into total darkness. Inside the cavern, the mythical tale comes true as you see the shadow of a massive, growling beast!
Race to escape the cursed mountain—before the Yeti claims another expedition.
It is important to note that, at this time, Disney World has not confirmed anything in regard to the ride’s reopening. It is possible that they are hoping to reopen in mid-April as scheduled, but want Guests to be aware that that might not happen. Disney works as diligently as possible to keep rides and attractions down for as little time as possible, but due to the heavy usage that the rides receive on a daily basis, extensive refurbishments are occasionally required.
