Vacation Plans Disrupted: Disney Alters Itinerary for Thousands of Guests
The Disney Cruise Line has issued an urgent notice today, announcing significant changes to the upcoming voyages of thousands of guests aboard the Disney Treasure, set to depart from Port Canaveral.
The Disney Cruise Line has altered its itinerary due to unforeseen circumstances, leading to a major shift for those hoping to visit Puerto Rico. While these changes are never ideal, Disney has worked quickly to provide an alternative experience for the impacted guests.
A Magical Journey with Unforeseen Changes
A Disney vacation, especially one aboard the Disney Cruise Line, is often seen as a luxurious and stress-free way to experience the magic. Unlike the high-energy, fast-paced environment of Disney theme parks, Disney cruises offer a more relaxed, leisurely atmosphere, with stunning ocean views, spacious accommodations, and time to unwind between activities.
However, that doesn’t mean things don’t go wrong from time to time.
Just got this lovely email for my cruise tomorrow. They cancelled Puerto Rico and moved us to Lookout Point.

According to an email received and shared by a guest on Reddit, this modification comes after the port in San Juan informed Disney that the berth initially allocated for the ship was unavailable due to ongoing construction.
Changes to the Disney Treasure Itinerary
Though Puerto Rico is no longer part of the itinerary, Disney has managed to rearrange the schedule to ensure guests can still enjoy a day at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, a private Disney destination, in addition to the originally planned stop at Disney Castaway Cay.
While it’s likely disappointing for some that Puerto Rico is no longer included, this adjustment offers guests an alternative to explore more of Disney’s private island destinations.
In light of the inconvenience, Disney is offering affected guests onboard credits as a gesture of goodwill. “As appreciation for your understanding of this itinerary change, we will provide each stateroom with a non-refundable, non-transferrable onboard credit of $250, which can be used only during this sailing,” Disney shared in the email.
This credit will be automatically added to each stateroom’s account, allowing guests to use it for onboard services, merchandise, food and beverages, or excursions.
A New Ship with Exceptional Features
The Disney Treasure, which made its maiden voyage in December 2024, is one of the newest ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. As with all Disney cruise ships, the Disney Treasure features immersive dining experiences inspired by Disney’s most beloved movies.
The ship’s signature dining experiences include Fiesta on the High Seas, based on Disney-Pixar’s Coco (2017), and an interactive Worlds of Marvel dining experience that brings Marvel superheroes to life. For those seeking a more sophisticated dining experience, the 1923 restaurant, named after the founding year of The Walt Disney Company, offers elegant cuisine in a refined atmosphere.
Entertainment aboard the Disney Treasure includes the Broadway-style production Disney The Tale of Moana, a retelling of the beloved Disney film Moana (2016), as well as Beauty and the Beast and Disney Seas the Adventure, an original stage show.
AquaMouse, a water coaster featuring a brand-new Mickey and Minnie Mouse short, Curse of the Golden Egg, offers thrills for those looking for excitement. Additionally, a Lion King (1994)-inspired lounge and the Wonderland Cinema, where guests can watch the latest Disney movie releases, provide plenty of entertainment options.
Disruptions on Disney Cruise Line
While Disney works hard to ensure smooth sailing for its guests, disruptions like the one affecting the Disney Treasure are part of the unpredictable nature of cruise vacations. From hurricanes to political unrest, unforeseen circumstances can alter itineraries at the last minute. Disney Cruise Line has always responded quickly to these changes, providing affected guests with as much compensation and alternatives as possible.
For those affected by the recent itinerary change, the chance to explore Disney’s private islands may help offset the disappointment of missing Puerto Rico. Disney continues to offer its guests the luxury of both flexibility and unique experiences, ensuring that despite the disruption, the magic of a Disney cruise remains intact.
