A Magic Kingdom visit in October can look very different depending on when you go.
Walt Disney World will spend most of the month celebrating Halloween, but the park is also preparing for Christmas, introducing a new limited-time dining experience, and dealing with a major race weekend. On top of that, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will significantly alter operating hours on more than half of the nights in October.
If Magic Kingdom is part of your fall vacation, these are the changes you’ll want to know about.
Halloween Party Nights Will Affect Park Hours
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party isn’t slowing down as October begins.
Disney has 16 parties scheduled during the month: October 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 13, 15, 16, 18, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29, and 31.
Those dates matter even if you aren’t attending the party.
Magic Kingdom closes to regular guests at 6 p.m. on event nights. Anyone who wants to remain inside afterward needs separate admission to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
That means guests buying regular admission should check the operating calendar carefully. Picking a party date could leave you with considerably less park time than you expected.
Of course, guests attending the party will find trick-or-treating, seasonal entertainment, Halloween characters, decorations, and other special offerings.
The final party arrives on Halloween night, October 31.
Christmas Starts Creeping Into Disney World
Here’s where October gets interesting.
Magic Kingdom may still be covered in pumpkins, but Disney will already be preparing for Christmas.
Guests visiting late in the month could begin spotting some early holiday elements. Most of the major decorating happens after Halloween, but Disney’s Christmas transformation is large enough that preparations begin before October ends.
Once Halloween night is finished, the transition happens incredibly quickly.
That makes late October a unique time to visit. Halloween remains the primary celebration, but Christmas is waiting right behind it.
The Diamond Horseshoe Gets Another Transformation
Guests heading into Frontierland will also have something new to try.
Beginning October 4, The Diamond Horseshoe will become a limited-time pop-up experience. Reservations open September 29.
Disney previously used the restaurant for live entertainment during its Cool KIDS’ Summer promotion, including a Jessie-themed Toy Story show. Now the location is changing again.
The pop-up brings a menu filled with Western-inspired choices.
Options include glazed sticky ribs, charcuterie, queso fundido with barbecue burnt ends, sweet golden corn fritters, a chipotle chicken tostada, and a mini hot dog platter.
Disney is also introducing several specialty cocktails, including the Whinnyin’ Whiskey Lemonade, Cactus Rose Margarita, High Plains Huckleberry, Rattler Rum Punch, and Coal’d Fashioned.
There’s even a seasonal In Holiday Fashion cocktail featuring bourbon, rosemary syrup, cranberry, and cinnamon.
Because Disney describes this as a limited-time experience, guests interested in trying it may not want to wait too long.
A Busy Race Weekend Arrives in Late October
Finally, anyone visiting from October 22 through October 25 should remember that Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend will be underway.
Although much of the runDisney activity centers around the EPCOT area, runners and their families will be staying throughout Walt Disney World and visiting the other parks.
Magic Kingdom could see increased crowds as a result.
There’s another wrinkle: Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party takes place October 22, 23, and 25.
Between the race weekend and multiple early Magic Kingdom closures, guests visiting during those dates should plan carefully.
October will ultimately be a month caught between two seasons.
Halloween isn’t going anywhere until October 31, but Christmas is already approaching. Throw in a new Diamond Horseshoe experience, changing park hours, and a major runDisney weekend, and Magic Kingdom visitors have plenty to watch as October gets underway.
