Disney Confirms 2-Month Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Replacement at Hollywood Studios

A major Disney’s Hollywood Studios attraction is already getting another transformation.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets recently ushered in a new era for the longtime thrill ride, putting The Electric Mayhem at the center of the experience. Now, Disney has confirmed that the regular version will temporarily disappear beginning November 4.

In its place will be a seasonal experience that changes the coaster’s music and story for roughly two months.

And Disney isn’t limiting the changes to the ride itself.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Changes November 4

Beginning November 4, guests will experience Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay.

The limited-time version will continue through January 6, meaning holiday visitors will get an experience considerably different from the normal attraction.

Guests should start noticing changes as soon as they approach the coaster.

Festive music will fill the courtyard surrounding the guitar marquee. Inside G-Force Records, The Electric Mayhem will be busy rehearsing for a holiday spectacular.

As anyone familiar with the Muppets might expect, things don’t go according to plan.

The band keeps rehearsing while Scooter desperately tries to get everyone moving toward the concert. Penguin audio engineers will join Scooter as he attempts to convince The Electric Mayhem that their fans are waiting.

That leads into the familiar high-speed race across town, but riders will have some completely different music accompanying them.

New Songs Take Over the Coaster

Disney is adding four holiday-inspired tracks for the overlay.

Among the announced selections is “Holiday Road,” performed by The Electric Mayhem with Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear.

Jennifer Hudson joins the band for “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” while Cyndi Lauper appears on “Silver Bells.”

The different tracks give Disney a way to transform the attraction without altering the coaster itself, while also encouraging guests to ride more than once.

It’s also an early example of just how flexible the Muppets concept could become.

The Electric Mayhem’s concert storyline naturally allows Disney to introduce different music or seasonal performances without completely rebuilding the experience. That could potentially open the door to other limited-time versions in the future, although Disney has not announced anything beyond this holiday offering.

For now, the change has a clear expiration date.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay runs from November 4 through January 6. After that, guests can expect the regular Muppets experience to return.

But for roughly two months, one of Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ biggest thrill rides is getting a holiday replacement only months into its new Muppets era.
