Disney Changing Guardians of the Galaxy Location at Park
Change is always in motion at the Disneyland Resort—and one popular corner of Disney California Adventure Park is about to gain a small but meaningful enhancement. A new permit has been filed that signals a permanent update to the area surrounding Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, the thrilling drop tower adventure that has become a favorite since its debut.
The space in question is the old FastPass distribution area near the Guardians attraction—unused since the shift away from FastPass during the pandemic and the rollout of the Genie+ and Lightning Lane systems. As reported by Kenny the Pirate, “This new permit will convert this space into an outdoor eating area. It appears that this may offer a fun theming since a metal awning, shipping container, and electrical work will be part of this design.”
Since opening on May 27, 2017, Guardians of the Galaxy–Mission: BREAKOUT! has redefined thrills at Disney California Adventure. Replacing The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, the attraction takes guests on an unpredictable rescue mission led by Rocket Raccoon, featuring randomized drops, a rockin’ soundtrack, and appearances from Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, and more.
The attraction marked the start of Disneyland Resort’s Marvel-themed transformation, paving the way for the launch of Avengers Campus in 2021. Designed as a fully immersive land and superhero training ground, Avengers Campus officially opened on June 4 of that year.
Anchored by WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure—where guests sling webs alongside Peter Parker using cutting-edge tech—the land also includes unique dining at Pym Test Kitchen and heroic encounters around every corner.
And this is just the beginning.
Disney has already shared ambitious plans for Avengers Campus to double in size. Guests can look forward to exciting additions like the Stark Flight Lab and the epic new attraction Avengers: Infinity Defense, where King Thanos makes his debut and Tony Stark—portrayed by Robert Downey Jr.—returns for more Multiversal action.
As part of CEO Bob Iger’s promise to “turbocharge” the parks, Disneyland Resort won’t be the only one evolving. Walt Disney World Resort is planning new lands inspired by Cars, Monsters, Inc., Encanto, and even a realm of Disney Villains. Meanwhile, Disneyland Paris is preparing to unveil World of Frozen and more.
Unlike Walt Disney World Resort, which houses Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT, space at Disneyland Resort is limited. That makes even small changes—like this new outdoor dining area—an impactful improvement for guest comfort and flow near one of the park’s most popular rides.
