Main Street Street Electrical Parade

This incredible parade featuring over 600,000 lights synchronized to a fantastic soundtrack first appeared in Disneyland in 1972. They were created by Robert Jani and project director Ron Miziker; the Main Street Electrical Parade became a fan favorite early on. Since opening, we have seen versions of the parade come and go at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

The parade was so famous that a version arrived in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World between 1977 and 2016. When the parade took a break between 1991-1999 and again in 2001-2010, fans missed this magical experience to their evening.

A version of this extremely popular nighttime parade has also been seen at Tokyo Disneyland as Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade: DreamLights. In Hong Kong Disneyland, Paint the Night Parade, a similar but different nighttime experience began in 2014. An extended version of this arrived at Disneyland to later move to Disney California Adventure.

Even though adjustments and changes, what remained constant was the love for this nighttime parade.

Floats and More

The parade floats featured beloved characters from iconic Disney movies. The Casey Jr. train from Dumbo (1941) carried Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Goofy.

Other floats had characters from iconic movies such as Cinderella (1950), Peter Pan (1953), Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)and Pinocchio (1940)Not only were the floats decorated with lights, but the costumes the characters wore also shined bright.

Millions of guests have watched versions of the Main Street Electrical Parade as they wrapped up their magical evenings in Disney Park worldwide. We are thrilled that it will be back in 2024 in a very unique way.

It Is Coming Back

During the summer of 2023, Disneyland Paris announced that as it wrapped up its 30th anniversary celebration, new entertainment would arrive in 2024.

The official Disneyland Paris website teased the information: “We’re remixing the winter blues with something colorful, musical, and… magical! It’s called Disney Symphony of Colors, and it’s coming to Disneyland Park in early 2024.”

The new nighttime drone show won’t be the only new entertainment coming to Disneyland Paris as part of the Symphony of Colours. Guests will also enjoy a new daytime show and brand-new decorations throughout the park.

This event is scheduled in Disneyland Paris for a limited time, ending September 30, 2024. We hope that Main Street Electrical Parade will reappear at Walt Disney World. Until then, it might mean a trip overseas.

About Jennifer Retzlaff

My name is Jennifer Retzlaff and I became a lifelong Disney fan during my first trip to Walt Disney World in 6th grade. From that moment, Disney became a big part of my life. I live in Iowa with my husband and two kids who are growing up too quickly for my liking. I started introducing my love for Disney early to my family with a Disney honeymoon and then trips when our youngest of 18 months. Since then, our family has been to Walt Disney World over five times and we continue to plan and dream for the next trip. I love the magic that Disney brings to people through the theme parks, cruises, adventures and movies they create. As a teacher, I try to bring that magic into my classroom to help kids believe that “If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It.” I recently reached a dream of mine as I joined Magic Vacation Planner as a personal travel advisor. With this team, I can now help others plan magical vacations. As a passionate writer, I also have my own blog at magicalvacationsbyjen which is also where you can follow me on instagram for trip reviews along with tips and tricks for your next magical vacation.
