Disney has just announced the opening date of its newest resort hotel, and guests are thrilled about the opportunity to experience a brand-new resort hotel, especially since this one’s theme is all about childhood wonder and excitement!
On Monday, Disney Parks announced the official date for the opening of its most recently constructed resort hotel, but the opening of this Disney resort hotel won’t add to the number of offerings in accommodations, as the finished hotel is the product of a complete reimagining of a hotel that was already in place at the parks.
Disney’s Brand-New Hotel Initially Opened in 1984
Disney’s “brand-new” hotel actually opened in 1984, as it originally belonged to a different entity. Originally operated by the Tokyu Group as the Emerald of Anaheim, the hotel was constructed in the 1980s in support of the 1984 Olympics, held in Los Angeles, California. But in December 1995, Disney purchased the hotel for a reported $36 million and renamed it the Disneyland Pacific Hotel. In October 2000, as part of the 1998-2001 expansion of Disneyland Resort, the hotel was completely rebranded as Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel to tie in with Paradise Pier, located just across the street at Disney California Adventure theme park.
In September 2022, Disney Parks announced exciting plans for the reimagining of Disneyland’s Paradise Pier Hotel to Disneyland’s PIXAR Place Hotel. The plans included renovations, rebranding, additions, and deletions that would culminate into an exciting new experience for guests who choose to stay onsite at Disneyland. And best of all, the hotel would go nicely with PIXAR Pier, located just across the street inside Disney California Adventure.
On Monday morning, Disney Parks made the exciting announcement that the newly reimagined resort hotel, PIXAR Place Hotel, will finally open to guests on January 30, 2024.
Per Disney Parks Blog:
Playful Pixar elements have been coming to life over the past few months at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel at Disneyland Resort, and we’re excited to share that the property will officially transform into Pixar Place Hotel on January 30, 2024, becoming the first fully Pixar-themed hotel in the United States.
Pixar Place Hotel will evoke the inspiration and humor that goes into every Pixar film, while celebrating the artistic process. Showcasing early sketches to finished design, the art and decor will highlight vibrant Pixar stories, revealing some never-before-seen artwork.
When the lobby is complete, you will see even more unique art inspired by Pixar films and be greeted by the iconic Pixar Lamp balancing atop its ball, with an imaginative mobile of beloved Pixar characters floating from the bright skylight above. The mobile will depict the beginning stages of Pixar filmmaking when animators create the characters’ designs with their most basic shapes and colors. The characters you’ll see are at the beginning of their journey, just as the guests who step into the lobby begin their own story at the Disneyland Resort!
And the guest rooms inside the newly reimagined hotel are impressive!
From pillows inspired by the Pixar Ball to lighting reminiscent of the Pixar Lamp, there will be whimsical nods to the iconic animation studio throughout these comfortable and contemporary accommodations. Some of the art was even created by Pixar Animation Studios artists, especially for Pixar Place Hotel! The headboards will consist of concept art from a variety of Pixar features, including “The Incredibles,” “Toy Story 3” and more, that are arranged in order from warm to cool colors, sharing the importance of color to the tone of a scene.
Again, Disneyland’s PIXAR Place Hotel opens to guests on January 30, 2024. We can’t wait to see it for ourselves!
