Walt Disney World Resort just dropped a major bombshell about its newest experience.
The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser just opened March 1, 2022 for its maiden voyage. Since that point, the hotel has met its fair share of controversy.ย The Galactic Starcruiser is billed as an “immersive experience” that takes Guests on a “cruise ship in space.” The two-night experience gives Disney World Guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Star Wars universe, meeting some of their favorite characters and taking in special experiences.
In addition, the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser makes a “stop” at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. There, Guests are given special opportunities to explore Batuu and take a ride on the two attractions in the land, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run.
While it sounds astounding on the surface, the hotel was met with heavy amounts of backlash from fans. Many fans complained about many of the activities planned aboard the “cruise ship.” The most common complaint, however, was the price point for which Disney asked Guests to pay to enjoy the Galactic Starcruiser. The immersive experience cost around $5,000.00 for a two-night stay, meaning that Guests were paying much more for the experience than they would even for several nights at a Disney Luxury Resort.
With this amount of backlash and voyages not coming near their capacity, Disney announced on Thursday that the Galactic Starcruiser would be coming to an end.
Reporter Scott Gustin was the first to share the news that the Galactic Starcruiser will take its final voyage on September 28-30, 2023.

In a statement, Disney shared the following about the Star Wars hotel permanently closing:
“We are so proud of all of the Cast Members and Imagineers who brought Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser to life and look forward to delivering an excellent experience for Guests during the remaining voyages over the coming months.”
With the Galactic Starcruiser coming to an end, many Disney fans have already started to wonder what might happen next. The overarching belief, at least on the surface, would be that Walt Disney Imagineering would revamp the experience and refurbish certain areas. The next time a Star Wars-themed experience opens in the area, it could likely be a more permanent Star Wars-themed hotel, rather than an experience. For now, however, nothing has been announced.
