Disney and Johnny Depp Reconnect With Confirmed ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ 2027 Release

After years of uncertainty surrounding Johnny Depp and Disney, the studio has officially taken a surprising step back into the world of Captain Jack Sparrow.

No, Disney has not announced Pirates of the Caribbean 6 just yet.

But the company has officially approved the first major new project connected to Depp’s era of the franchise since the actor’s very public exit from Disney years ago. For longtime fans of Pirates of the Caribbean, that alone feels like a pretty huge development.

And honestly, it is difficult not to wonder whether this could eventually lead somewhere even bigger.

Disney Returns to the World of the Black Pearl

The new project comes from Secret Cinema, a company famous for building immersive live experiences based on major movie franchises.

In February 2027, Secret Cinema will launch Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Immersive Adventure in London. The event will run for 10 weeks and promises a fully interactive experience inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003).

According to the company, guests will be able to walk through richly recreated environments, interact with characters, and essentially step inside the world of the original film itself.

That is important because Disney specifically approved a project rooted in the Depp-era version of Pirates. This is not a rebooted interpretation of the franchise. It is very clearly tied to the original movies that made Captain Jack Sparrow one of Disney’s biggest modern characters.

For years, fans questioned whether Disney would ever publicly reconnect itself to that era of the franchise again.

Now, it finally has.

Fans Are Reading Between the Lines

Naturally, this announcement has immediately sparked new speculation online.

Disney and Depp’s relationship became one of Hollywood’s most talked-about stories over the past several years. Reports about the future of Pirates of the Caribbean constantly shifted, with rumors ranging from total reboots to spin-offs to potential returns.

Nothing officially moved forward.

That uncertainty made this new announcement feel much bigger than a simple live event.

Studios generally do not invest in large-scale immersive experiences tied to dormant franchises unless they believe audiences still care deeply about the brand. In this case, Disney is once again embracing the exact version of Pirates most closely associated with Depp himself.

Even though Depp is not officially attached to the production, his influence is all over it.

The Black Pearl. Tortuga. The original film mythology. Captain Jack Sparrow’s world remains the emotional core of this franchise, whether Disney directly says it or not.

Disney’s Nostalgia Era Continues

Hollywood has become obsessed with nostalgia over the last several years.

Audiences continue showing up for legacy sequels, returning casts, and familiar worlds they already love. Studios know there is major financial value in reconnecting fans to iconic franchises from the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s.

Disney has leaned heavily into that strategy across multiple brands, and now Pirates of the Caribbean appears to be part of that conversation again.

That is one reason fans are taking this announcement so seriously.

If Disney truly wanted to distance itself from Depp’s version of Pirates, it could have easily approved an entirely different concept. Instead, the company signed off on an experience directly inspired by The Curse of the Black Pearl, the movie that launched Depp into one of the most beloved blockbuster roles of his career.

Secret Cinema Is Going All Out

Secret Cinema is describing the production as its biggest undertaking yet.

The company said:

“For 10 weeks only, guests will be plunged into the legendary world of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, with the freedom to roam richly detailed environments, encounter iconic characters, and become part of the story themselves. Every night unfolds as a high-energy adventure, culminating in a spectacular celebration worthy of the seven seas.”

The event will reportedly feature large-scale sets, live performers, aerial stunts, sword fighting, music, and audience participation throughout the experience.

For many fans, though, the biggest takeaway is much simpler.

Disney is officially embracing Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean world again.

Whether that eventually leads to a true cinematic reunion remains unknown. But after years of silence and uncertainty surrounding the franchise, this certainly feels like the closest Disney and Depp have come to reconnecting in a very long time.
