“The Little Mermaid” Remake Changes a Beloved Film

The 1989 version of The Little Mermaid is considered a perfect film by many Disney fans. The original version is one hour and 27 minutes long, and those 87 minutes are jam-packed with musical numbers and gorgeous animations. With the new Walt Disney Studios film, everything is going to be bigger and more fleshed out compared to the original.

The Little Mermaid remake features a star-studded cast under the direction of Rob Marshall. Actors like Halle Bailey, Melissa McCarthy, Jonah Hauer-King, Simone Ashley, Jacob Tremblay, Daveed Diggs, Javier Bardem, and Lin Manuel Miranda are going to star in the film.

It was announced recently that many of the songs from the original film would be undergoing some significant rewrites. The new version of the film is going to incorporate a more feminist angle on Ariel’s story. Actress Halle Bailey explained that this movie is about much more than a girl chasing a boy. She says:

“It’s way bigger than that. It’s about herself, her purpose, her freedom, her life and what she wants… As women we are amazing, we are independent, we are modern, we are everything and above. And I’m glad that Disney is updating some of those themes.”

These new changes will make the remake quite a lot longer than the original. According to AMC Theatres, this run time for the live-action version will be two hours and 15 minutes. This makes it nearly an hour longer than the other.
