Daisy Ridley Hints at Marvel Jump Amid Delays in ‘Star Wars’ Return
Daisy Ridley may be best known for her role as Rey in Star Wars, but the actress has now made it clear that she’s open to stepping into another major franchise—the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
From a Galaxy Far, Far Away to the Superhero Spotlight?
While promoting her upcoming film Cleaner, Ridley expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of joining a superhero franchise. Speaking to Comic Book Resources, she confirmed that if Marvel or DC were to reach out, she would absolutely be interested.
“Look, I’m open to loads of stuff,” she said. “I work with this amazing second AD called Matthew Sharp, and he texts me cause he’s doing Avengers, and he goes, ‘If they call.’ So I was like, ‘If they call, absolutely.'”
She also revealed her love for other major franchises, including Batman and HBO’s upcoming The Penguin spinoff series, adding, “I then, of course, love Batman, love The Penguin. I’m a fan of so many sorts of films. Yeah, I’m open to everything.”
The Legacy of Star Wars and Rey’s Future
Ridley’s openness to superhero roles comes amid continued uncertainty surrounding her return to Star Wars.
When Disney revived the franchise with the sequel trilogy, it introduced a new generation of characters while bringing back legacy figures like Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), and Han Solo (Harrison Ford). The trilogy divided fans, particularly regarding Luke’s arc and Rey’s prominence as the story’s central figure.
Despite criticism directed at the trilogy, Lucasfilm surprised fans in 2023 by announcing a new film focused on Rey (or should we call her Rey Skywalker?) rebuilding the Jedi Order. While Ridley has reassured fans that the project is still moving forward, it has undergone several rewrites and remains in development.
Is Rey’s Next Chapter Delayed?
Two years after its announcement, Ridley has indicated that the Star Wars film may not be her immediate next project. While speaking to ScreenRant, she suggested that the timeline remains unclear.
She later elaborated to Comic Book Resources, saying, “I have not read the latest script, but I know what’s happening, and I know the story. I think what feels really good is that George [Nolfi] is a phenomenal writer. I think we’re making sure that this story is the best way, this script is the best way to tell the story, and I think it will be worthwhile for everyone watching it, and I am very excited, yeah.”
The film has faced multiple script changes, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight previously attached before being replaced by The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) writer George Nolfi. While this has led to speculation that the project could be scrapped, Ridley has remained confident that it will move forward.
Will Daisy Ridley Join the MCU?
Ridley’s name has often been floated by fans for various superhero roles, with many championing her as the perfect fit for Jessica Drew, also known as Spider-Woman. Given Marvel Studios’ ongoing expansion of its multiverse and upcoming Avengers films, the only voice left to chip into the conversation is the President of Marvel Studios himself, Kevin Feige.
As for what’s next, Ridley remains open to all possibilities. With the Star Wars timeline still in flux and Marvel constantly adding new characters to its roster, it may only be a matter of time before she joins another major cinematic universe.
