In April 2023, Warner Bros. made a significant announcement: a Harry Potter reboot was in the works for Max (formerly HBO), with a ten-year commitment to explore the books in greater depth than the films ever could. As exciting as this news was, it came with its share of controversy, primarily due to J.K. Rowling’s divisive views, which have overshadowed the magical world she created.

The tension between Rowling’s public anti-trans statements and the growing support for the LGBTQ+ community, particularly among her original cast, has made the reboot a source of heated debate.

Amid these tensions, one Harry Potter star has revealed that he plans to make an appearance in the new series, though you may have to look closely to spot him.

Tom Felton’s Return to the Wizarding World

Tom Felton, who portrayed Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, has been a fan favorite for years. As Harry Potter’s school rival, Felton’s portrayal of Draco left an indelible mark on the series. While much of the Harry Potter cast has moved on to other projects, Felton has remained a beloved figure in the fandom.

Now, in an exclusive interview with The Daily Mail, Felton has revealed that he is planning to make an appearance in the upcoming Harry Potter series reboot.

“I’m not opposed to that at all. Any chance to be part of the Wizarding World is a good one… I’ll definitely be sneaking into a background shot as an extra.”

Felton’s playful remark about being an “extra” has led to speculation about how his character, Draco Malfoy, will fit into the reimagined world of Harry Potter. Could this be a brief cameo, a background appearance, or a more significant role in the ongoing story?

While details are scarce, the idea of seeing Draco Malfoy in the new series, even in a small way, is enough to send Harry Potter fans into a frenzy.

A Neutral Stance on Rowling’s Controversy

One of the most intriguing aspects of Felton’s comments is his ability to remain neutral amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding J.K. Rowling. While many of the original Harry Potter stars, including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, have publicly distanced themselves from Rowling due to her transphobic remarks, Felton has taken a more diplomatic approach.

In interviews, he has expressed his sadness over the strained relationships between Rowling and his co-stars, but he has also praised Rowling for her contributions to literature and entertainment.

Felton explained, “No one has single-handedly done more for bringing joy to so many different generations and walks of life.” His words reflect a more measured response to the controversy, acknowledging both the positive impact of Rowling’s work and the complications that have arisen due to her views.
