Cosmic Rewind Cut: Disney World Fans React to Change in EPCOT

If you have ever stood in the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind pre-show at EPCOT, you probably know the moment. Terry Crews, as Nova Corps Centurion Tal Marik, asks the room what they call themselves, the screen falls quiet for a second, and someone in the crowd fills the silence. That moment is now gone.

A Quick Edit With a Big Reaction

Disney has removed the pause that followed Tal Marik’s question, so the video now rolls directly into his next line. There has been no official explanation, but guests no longer get an opening to chime in.

For years, the most popular answer shouted into that gap was “alcoholics.” It was a nod to EPCOT’s unofficial status as the “drinking” park, courtesy of the much-loved Drink Around the World tradition in World Showcase. Other polarizing answers made the rounds, too.

Small as it is, the change has become a hot topic among fans thanks to the pre-show’s notoriety.

Fans Sound Off on Reddit

Many Reddit users welcomed the change, calling the shout-outs “cringe.”

“The last time I heard someone shout alcoholics, they sounded so proud of themselves while saying it, but then they were booed mercilessly by the room with one person going ‘YOU’RE NOT FUNNY.’ Shi was kinda funny first time it went viral in 2022, hasn’t been funny since that one person tho,” wrote DrOddfellow.

“Finally. The amount of cringe that people would yell that they and only they thought was funny was out of control,” added Kenny_RogersRoasters.

One commenter noted Cosmic Rewind is not the only offender. “Because people have to over exaggerate how bothered they are over nothing. Meanwhile, reciting the entire Haunted Mansion stretch room script is actually annoying because it takes everyone else out of the moment—no different than someone saying the lines in a movie to prove they’re big fans. We get it. You know the lines. Quiet,” wrote FjordAhoy.

SittinByThePool agreed: “It’s always funny to me you have the people who yell and think they’re so cool for being obnoxious for what could be many people’s first or only time riding the ride. Or the people in haunted mansion that quote every line of the preshow loudly to show everyone how many times they’ve been. The worst people lol.”

On the other side of the debate, Admiral_Austinfinity doubted the fix would help: “This isn’t going to make a difference. In fact it just means the same people who shout something out are now going to actively talk over Terry and confuse others even worse.”

Why Cosmic Rewind Keeps Getting Tweaked

Four years after its 2022 debut, the Marvel coaster in World Discovery remains a hot ticket. It is EPCOT’s Lightning Lane Single Pass attraction and is also part of the Premier Pass, so many guests make it a top priority. Lightning Lane lines are often busy, and standby waits can stretch. During the September 21 event, they reached 185 minutes at their peak.

All that traffic has led to other adjustments. Cast members recently changed the pre-show exit process, which often had hundreds of guests vying for a spot further up the line.

A Park Built on Big Ideas

Walt Disney first imagined EPCOT as an innovative community. It became a theme park after his passing and now sits alongside Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando. Its World Celebration, World Discovery, World Nature, and World Showcase areas feature attractions like Spaceship Earth and Frozen Ever After.

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his… More »
