A Timeline of Kali River Rapids’ closure and reopening

  • January 6, 2025:
The widely discussed Kali River Rapids closed for its annual seasonal maintenance. As a family raft ride in the Asia section, it’s known for its twisting, turning rapids and a dramatic 20-foot drop.

  • Why the Buzz?
Over the years, guests have expressed concerns about the ride’s short duration and uneven soaking—where some riders get drenched and others barely feel a splash. In addition, its environmental messaging on deforestation hasn’t resonated with everyone, prompting calls for a reimagined experience.

  • March 14, 2025:
After a two-month refurbishment, the ride is set to reopen. This return, typical of water attractions during Florida’s cooler months, marks a new chapter for a ride that has long divided opinion.

What Other Projects Are Taking Place at Disney’s Animal Kingdom?

  • Farewell to DinoLand U.S.A.:
After 26 years, this beloved area is making room for Pueblo Esperanza—an 11-acre land inspired by the Tropical Americas that will feature a fresh Encanto (2021)-themed attraction along with an Indiana Jones (1981)-inspired adventure.

  • New Life in the Tree of Life:
The classic “It’s Tough to Be a Bug!” show wraps up on March 16, 2025. In its place, guests will soon experience “Zootopia: Better Zoogether,” a new production set to bring the vibrant world of Zootopia (2016) to life in the park’s iconic Tree of Life Theater.

  • Meet and Greet Moves:
As refurbishments take place at Adventurer’s Outpost, Mickey and Minnie have found a temporary new home. Their continued presence ensures that families can still share those magical moments with their favorite characters.

This bulletin-style update shows that while Kali River Rapids prepares for its refreshed debut, Animal Kingdom is busy reinventing its experience for every kind of guest.
