When Walt Disney World Resort kicked off its 50th Anniversary celebration on October 1, 2021, part of the celebration was the opening of a brand-new restaurant at the Contemporary Resort. Steakhouse 71 combined the magic of Walt Disney’s creativity with a delicious steakhouse. Menu highlights include the iconic Bacon & Eggs appetizer, perfectly cooked Filet Mignon and Prime Rib, and a can’t-miss Crème Brûlée.

The name pays homage to the year that the Magic Kingdom opened in Walt’s “Florida Project”. However, it was not the first steakhouse to honor the year a Disney theme park opened.

In 2006, Steakhouse 55 opened at the Disneyland Hotel, replacing Granville’s Steak House and paying homage to the year Disneyland Park opened. The wood-paneled restaurant elicited a feeling of stepping back in time and offering classic steakhouse dishes.

The space once occupied by Steakhouse 55 has undergone a significant transformation. Remaining closed since the pandemic, the area has now been repurposed to create the Broken Spell Lounge. This new lounge is adorned with charming themed artwork and decor inspired by Disney’s animated classic, Sleeping Beauty, which adds an enchanting atmosphere for guests.

The lounge aims to provide a casual dining experience, offering a welcoming alternative to the formal dining atmosphere previously associated with Steakhouse 55.

The grand unveiling of the Broken Spell Lounge took place on October 21, 2024, at 7 p.m., as guests eagerly anticipated its arrival. The lounge’s design elements draw inspiration from the beloved Sleeping Beauty (1959), paying homage to the film’s artistic legacy. Following its opening, guests can visit the Broken Spell Lounge daily, starting from 4 p.m. until park closing, ensuring a new evening destination for those visiting Disneyland Resort.

The Broken Spell Lounge offers an intriguing and diverse menu that caters to a variety of tastes. Guests can enjoy a wide selection of cocktails, including classic drinks and unique creations. Highlights include options such as a Negroni, a Margarita, Scotch Sour, and a Smoked Old Fashioned, alongside specialty whiskey flights offering choices of Scotch, Rye, Bourbon, or Japanese Whiskey. There is also an extensive wine and beer list.

The Broken Spell Lounge’s food menu is equally compelling, featuring offerings like Truffle Fries, Chicken Wings, and a Waygu Cheeseburger. Guests can also savor steak frites and a delightful Molten Chocolate Cake.

As the lounge operates on a first-come, first-serve basis, guests are encouraged to arrive early to secure seating. This informal approach fosters a relaxed atmosphere, allowing visitors to spontaneously drop in for a memorable evening. The new lounge even has its own Instagram account, so guests who can’t visit right away can still see all the delicious things it has to offer.
