Disney Dining Serving up the latest Disney Eats, Treats, News, and More!
The Simpsons is notorious for parodying all manner of pop culture phenomena, so it was only a matter of time until Bluey got its turn. However, the beloved blue heeler just struck back against the citizens of Springfield.

Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie might be one of television’s most iconic families, but the Bluey, Bingo, Bandit, and Chilli are bringing the thunder from Down Under with record-breaking results. After being referenced in one of The Simpsons’ recent specials, the good folks at Ludo Studios sent a message to their yellow-hued counterparts.

The show is known for several famous lines, references, and characters, but one of its most identifiable features is the “Couch Gag” that opens each episode. After making its debut in the series’ universe, Bluey was all too happy to take a stab at its own variant, as seen in the footage below.

Shortly after being seen in The Simpsons’ short, “May the 12th Be With You,” Bluey’s official TikTok channel posted the video above depicting the show’s cast recreating the famous opening sequence using toys and stop-motion animation. It would be one thing if they simply reskinned the opening with Bluey and the rest of the Heeler family, but Ludo went all out by presenting a sequence that equally honors and lampoons both series.

The footage above is loaded to the brim with references to both shows, including nods to Bart’s chalkboard, the Kwik-E Mart, and the original Simpsons theme song being played in a Geoff-Bush-esque arrangement. Naturally, Bluey, Bingo, and the rest all fill in for Springfield’s favorite family, but the similarities between the two shows don’t stop there.

Bluey is practically infamous for its mass of adult fans, but there might be more than a little method to that madness. Not only do the show’s beloved characters resonate with viewers with their impeccable sense of realness, but the show’s writing and humor also have a certain familiar flavor.

Bluey creator Joe Brumm has gone on the record stating how much The Simpsons and humor of Matt Groening shaped his style, and now it seems things have simply gone full circle. Additionally, this isn’t the first time the show has influenced Bluey’s writing.

One infamous scene of the 28-minute episode, “The Sign,” shares a parallel that directly references one of Homer’s lines. When Chilli tells the girls that her and Brandy used to go to the Lookout for “thinking,” Brum confirmed that this was a reference to an exchange between Bart and his father.

On the podcast Gotta Be Done, Brum shared,
“No they’re a bit of an easy ride on this, that was stolen from The Simpsons though, I can confirm that. I think there’s a line where [Homer] says, ‘I have to do some thinking.” and then Bart says, ‘I think he means drinking.'”
It feels like The Simpsons has been slowly influencing the most-streamed program on our screens, and not for the first time either. While the citizens of Springfield might be a part of the longest running animated series on TV, they might have also been prepping their potential replacement as Bluey continues to take the world by storm.
